The Lion in Winter. There is a true love story between Eleanor and Henry, but it is in the shadows. They are left with what they've built of their lives. The love is still there and it pops out occasionally in a glance, a jibe, a tear. These two are enemies now, but the love has not died.

I don't know if there is an "ultimate" romance story. I know of many in real life that are book material. It would seem that fact should trump fiction when it comes to romance.

The Notebook is ssssoooooo good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Also, the Black Daliah is even better. The Black Daliah is a mystery and a love story. The movies and the books are good. As, you said, Romeo and Juliet is a classic.
