I had all the blood work done precribed when you go to your first prenatal appt and my doc called today and said my platelet count was low (57). Now, I have to see a hematologist and maternal specialist. This wasnt bought up in my previous pregnancies and to my knowledge hasnt been a concern while I wasnt pregnant, even though I usually only get blood work done while Im pregnant. But has this happened to anyone or anyone know somebody that this has happened to? Im so scared, I dont know what could be wrong.

There's not too much to worry about. About 5% of US women experience low platelets near the end of their term, its less common early in the pregnancy. There isn't necessarily anything wrong, but since low platelets can be caused by a variety of things, the docs may want to make sure the counts are due to pregnancy and not some other problem. A count of 57 (=57,000 platelets in 1 ml blood) is well-below the norm, but it is usually not low enough to cause problems.

For a completely different reason, i had my platelet count drop to 0 for a few days, and then my platelet counts were less than 10 for about 6 months - the worst thing that happened was frequent nose bleeds, spontaneous bruised all over the place, and blood in my urine.

Most likely the docs will monitor your platelets, and you will also be asked to watch for problems with clotting (nose bleeds, rash with tiny red dots, bruising, blood in urine). If you start having clotting problems, there are several treatments - prednisone is usually the first thing to try, and if that doesn't work, then immunoglobulin is given. The only time when the platelet counts really make a difference is at the time of delivery. Low platelet counts reduce blood clotting time, and if you counts are 20 or less about 4 weeks before you are due, it would be a good idea to seek a treatment to boost the platelets during delivery. It takes a few weeks for platelets to build up, so you have to plan ahead.
