I am married to someone that has been incarcerated for 8 years. We got married in 2006 and I really believe that he is not coming home at all. His sentence is 29 to 89 years and his projected release date is 2086. I want to move on with my life and get married and feel safe with my husband at home. I was told that marriages that have not been consummated was not legal.... I live in Maryland and I would like to know if that is in fact true or can I get this marriage annulled.

Do not make conjugal visits to the prison during a 12 month period and ignore people who argue the ancient law of consummating a marriage; Once that period passes, file for divorce where you live and serve him in prison. Chances are that he'll not contest the proceedings and a divorce can be obtained within weeks after filing. Hopefully, the prisoner will not argue things like spousal support, division of marital assets, etc.

Why on earth did you marry someone in prison?

Call an attorney and find out what grounds to have to annul this marriage, if any.
