Give them a #1 grandparents gift. For example, a #1 grandparents picture frame with the picture from your sonogram. Oh that would be adorable! They'll realize what it means pretty quick I figure.

We have been ttc for 17 months so we have thought of lots of ways of telling each side when the time finally comes.
For my in-laws we want to try to include our neice and nephew (they are 10 and 12 right now). So we were thinking of either making up shirts for them that says I am going to be a big cousin and having them open them in front of the family or playing pictionary as a family and for me to draw out a saying like "bun in the oven" and see how long it takes them to guess and then realize that it is a true statement.
For my mom we might get a frame that has a saying about grandchildren on it and then putting the words "picture to be delivered like July 2008" (or whenever the due date is) and having her open it or she has a little dog that is like part of the family and we are always buying little clothes for it so I thought I would make her a little shirt that says "I am going to be an Aunt" and put it on her and see how long it takes everyone to notice.
To tell my hubby the news I am going to either put baby booties in his work boots or hang a bib saying "I love my Daddy" from the mirror in his truck. Just some ideas.
We have been ttc for so long that they would just love to hear the words where pregnant. Have fun with it and congrats!!!!

Congrats! It's the first grandchild on both sides for us as well. My brother & his wife are adopting and will be getting her in February so I would say maybe second. Either way, we went out to dinner w/my parents and had presents wrapped. A bib that said I love Gramma and I love Grandpa. They were shocked. So were her his parents when we gave it to them.

Theres all kinds of ways to tell them. You could have them over for dinner and have bottles sitting on the table with candy in them. You could phone them, write an email text or wait til you have your first ultrasound and put it in a card and give it out for a new years present you could start off in the card by saying guess who's going to be grandparents this year!!!! Either way theres a lot of cute ideas goodluck and congratulations!!! and to the first person who posted I love saying WE are pregnant because WE accomplished this together.

For our first pregnancy--we took my husbands parents out to eat & we gave them a "Congratulations" card. & i scratched out a few words to accommodate their situation. It was really fun to see their faces light up when they were reading the card. My husband & I always picked I was pregnant...like we were eating dinner & my husband would say things like "krystle is pregnant"..."oh can you pass the rolls!?" Ha. It was so funny cause they just didn't belive us...But now my little girl is 1 wk shy of two years old...so they belive us now =)
We just broke the news again we were expecting #2 to everyone. I made my little girl a shirt that said "im gunna be a big sister" & they just ate it up!! Everyone is excited!! So try the card trick or make you a shirt saying "bun in the oven" or both of you a shirt that says "mom" & his says "dad". =) Or you could find a picture of a bun & a oven & put the pictures in the Congratulations Card & let them guess....Good Luck ♥

Mention it in casual convirsation. It'll make them do a double take... kinda like "I was going to call you earlier this week but I had this huge meeting at work and the dog puked on my brand new carpet and then (fill in the blanks) and then I found out I was pregnant so it's just been a crazy couple of days!" It'll also tell you how well they actually listen to you.

Give them a "no special occasion" type gift. T-shirts that say "World's Best Grandpa" or a mug or license plate frame or something like that. Make sure to video tape it when they open them. If one is having a birthday, sing Happy Birthday and instead of their name, say grandma or grandpa. Nonchalantly giving a gift that says grandma or grandpa on it is a fun surprise though. Congratulations.

did you get an early ultrasound? if so, copy the photo and frame it. or get a frame for a grandchild's photo and just put a piece of paper in that says "photo to come August 2008" you could also buy a bib or baby item that says i love grandma/granpa or something like that. it is a very exciting thing to tell them! congrats!
