that interesting, Regan defeated the soviets and ended the nuclear threat, restored national pride, oh and got reelected,
but hes a failure....by every deffinition of the word, as was said a few answers above me

carter was so bad that he never got his second term, ruined the moral of the country, but got a Nobel peace prize for settling the peace in the middle east? you know the place thats still blowing each other up?

If Reagan promised to shrink government then he and his administration didn't do that, then that would be a failure.

I'm sure some Republican convinced them that it would turn away too many voters to start cutting programs, and that if more Democrats got elected, they would expand government even more.

I wouldn't call Ron Paul a visionary, but I would say his success proves that Americans don't like where the two parties are taking us now.

He also criticized Lincoln and now his followers believe the Civil War was an illegal war of agression. I wonder if he's going to be voted back in by his constituents after all this.

edit: Flip flopper, I should have said some of his followers. I'll grant you that. But I have read three different Paul supporters call the Civil War an illegal war. And I'm sure there are more here doing so that I haven't seen. I'm not smearing Ron's supporters, I am simply telling you what some of them are saying. I don't see how that is a smear.

It's true! Reagan was never a true fiscal conservative, he overspent the budget, he did however do one thing Dubya is not willing to do, clean house after the Iran-Contra affair, did some firings, and the defecit spending did lead to fall of Communism, that is one thing I will say in Reagan's favor. No one has been a more miserable failure than George W. Bush, I don't care how much him, his daddy, his momma and his administration pitch a fit!

Hes right. I voted for Reagan but Reagan dudn't cut anything in government. He may have slowed the growth of things a little but that could have been done transfering things to different departments. He gave the country the bigest debt ever up until then.
If Reagan were honest he would have stopped the raiding of Social Security and Medicare.

A visionary loonatic.

Seeing him called on things he said he is starting to sound more and more like a regular ole politician as he couches and hedges regarding his position.

He has been a bright man, he is a change for sure. Whether it would be the best, I am not convinced.

Reagan did some good stuff for the country, but, like every president in history, where there is good, there is bad. I'd be interested in seeing Ron Paul as president, more than having the first woman (hillary) or first african american president (barack). hillary and barack will probably be like every other damn democrat/republican screwing things up the traditional way. Ron Paul's views are so unique that I am more interested in seeing if his ideals can change america. Hope this helps. Best wishes.
