People in Sweden rate Sven 'Tumba' Johansson ahead of Forsberg, Salming, and Lidstrom....as recently as a poll in 2005.
Having seen all 4 play (and I'll put Anders Hedberg, Ulf Nilsson, and Kent Nilsson ahead of Peter Forsberg) I'm going to agree with the Swedish masses and say that Forsberg is NOT the best hockey player of all times, not even in his home country.
My personal ranking of Swedish players
1. Anders Hedberg
2. Sven Johansson
3. Kent Nilsson
4. Ulf Nilsson
5. Peter Forsberg
6. Borje Salming
7. Nicklas Lidstrom
8. Markus Naslund
9. Thomas Steen
10. Hakan Loob
Mikey,
You have to look at a lot of things. Using only his Vancouver stats, Markus has finished in the top 5 of the NHL scoring race 3x, Sundin's done it once, and Aflfredsson has never done it. When it comes to the top 10, Sundin and Alfredsson have only done it twice each. Sundin and Alfredsson have had the good fortune thoughout their careers to have better players around them. While playing with the Swedish national team, Naslund has constantly outscored both Alfredsson and Sundin. I'm not alone in my thinking either. A couple of weeks ago the Hockey News panel was split on Lidstrom and Salming, and they named Lidstrom, I'm breaking their split and going with Salming.

No, the best hockey player of all time is Gordie Howe. The best offensive player of his era, the best defensive forward of his era, and didn't need anyone to do his fighting for him. Forsberg was a very good player, but not even close to being the greatest ever.

No, he's not. try Bobby Orr or Wayne Grezky, or Mario or Gordie Howe.
I call it a toss up between those 4. Forsberg used to be up in the list of best current NHL players though.

I think he is up in the top 5 of the modern era for sure. Gretzky, Lemieux, Yzerman, Forsberg, Bourque.

No. Maybe in the top 5 of his era. Surprising to me he never had more than 30 goals (if I'm not mistaken). Not that goals are the only measure, but you'd think someone of his stature would have had at least a couple 40 goal seasons.

LOL Zam. I missed your deadpan candor.
Not even the greatest Swish player ever. Too bad. Peter liked the North American game but his body took an absolute beating while doing it.
I nominate Borje Salming as the greatest ever Swede.

No he is not "Best hockey player all times" Even if he would have been healthy his whole career. I still don't think so. He was a good player but not the best. Daniel Alfredsson is better.

Wow LITY. I'd have Forsberg higher. No Sundin? No Alfredsson? You have Marcus Naslund above those two?
