He just kind of looks like he belongs behind the bench (watching the Spengler Cup during the World Juniors intermission).

Do you envision him being an NHL coach in the next couple of years? I am sure he will put in some time as an assistant for some time before he becomes a head coach but do you see him as a head coach in the NHL? Toronto sometime down the road maybe?

LITY- I suppose, when thinking about it, he probably isn't the greatest tactician sp? but seems his demeanor would be suited for it. Toronto could be that dumb.

Gilmour.............St. Louis..........the parents of the girl whom he supposedly raped still live there.....yeah..........I don't see Gilmour taking a job in St. Louis anytime soon.

Bob, I got my mortgage from Dougie a few years back when he ran a mortgage brokerage company here in Toronto (he's still an owner) and I didn't find any more maturity in him than I saw in him as a player (Dougie never really took anything seriously). I think his current position in Toronto is where his heart lies, and not as a coach.

I guess ................Toronto was dumb enough to hire him in the first place. You have to wonder about an oranization that give's it's beloved players purely honorary titles (Darryl Sittler, Wendel Clark, Doug Gilmour) when they are really nothing more than ambassadors for the team.

Snoop,
Here's the skinny on the issue. While not stated there, while in Toronto, Gilmour blamed the incident on ruining his marriage to Robyne.

I've never been impressed with Doug Gilmour to begin with (start with the fact that he is considered a god in Toronto, when guys such as Mats Sundin and Tomas Kaberle have done much more for the franchise and work your way forward). I think he would be one of the worse choices to become a head coach, but it wouldn't shock me if someone desperate for ticket sales/fan support (read: Toronto). There would be plenty of candidates for assistant/head coaches that many general managers would hire before Gilmour.

LITY- I didn't know Gilmour raped someone. Could you email some details to me?

i never thought about him being a coach, but he seems like he would make a good one. great guy, good leader, good work ethic, smart, knows the game. give him a few years coaching younger teams before jumping in though.

He certainly puts the @$$ in assistant! LOL

I was thinking more in the Blues minor league system.
