me and my friends where having a little smoke session the other night , and one of the question that came up was why is there a temperature change during the winter? never payed too much attention in science class, so i was interested in findin out the reason behind it. Does it have anything to do with the position of the sun and the earth?

i don't know, i guess it's a better question than asking why a love seat is called a loveseat

Because of the tilt of the earth and it's revolution around the sun the most direct rays of the sun strike the earth at different locations between the Tropic of Cancer (23.5 Degrees North Latitude) and the Tropic of Capricorn (23.5 Degrees South Latitude). When north it is summer north and winter south, when it is south it is winter north and summer south.

Because of the tilt of the earth's axis, the incident solar radiation on an unit area of the hemisphere which is experiencing the winter season becomes less(as the sun is not shining overhead and its rays are reaching the surface in an inclined angle) and hence the surface temperature also becomes less leading to cold condition.

As the Earth Rotates around the sun, the axis of the earth tilts like a dradle, so when the upper part of the equator tilts back we have winter, and vice versa

The most important reason is that there are so many less hours of daylight in the winter. Then that the sun is at a different angle in winter.
