Everyone i know who has an ipod or any mp3 player uses it. I havn't used it yet. what are the chances of getting caught and in trouble for using it? with what everyone says, it'd be a good thing to use but the illegal part is what keeps me away.

Its a good thing to use if you have a small concious. Very few people get caught using it, it takes some effort to catch someone, and usually its the people who provide the music, not the downloaders. Its easy to catch someone, but is it worth it? thats what stops most cops from tracking and arresting people, unless you download a large amount of music or data.

It is illegal to allow your music to be uploaded. As yet, nobody has been prosecuted for downloading. After all, it's no different from recording off the radio for your personal use.

When LimeWire installs, it asks for the name of the folder you wish to use for sharing. Make sure that this folder is not the one you will use for downloading.

Into this shared folder, place an MP3 file that is "safe", such as a very old tune that nobody will want and that is so old the copyright expired on it (I use an obscure monologue from the 1930s).

The reason for doing this is to stop you from appearing as a "loader". A loader (freeloader) is someone who downloads without offering something in return. LimeWire doesn't like loaders and will limit their accessibility to the site.

Happy sharing!

lime wire is for amateurs and if you mess up your setting you can be sharing files with thousands of people then you may get caught most people get caught for uploading brand new music and sharing it as studios etc monitor there own music and look for people sharing it.
The other way to get noticed is through the direct connect facility as this is why p2p was started for pirates across oceans to share directly.
Torrents are much safer but again be carefull with brand new releases as these get watched.

i would say not alot of people. alot of people use limewire,
its free and easy. only way prolly getting caught is when you have a computer technician come in and fix you computer, they'll prolly report you, but in most cases they always keep it to themselves. Limewire is good, but has many viruses floating around and it slows your computer down. so watch
out!

Don't believe what people say about getting caught and all that bullsh*t. I've been using it for a couple years, and I have tons of friends who use it and nothing happens. Also, don't believe people when they say it destroyed their computer. If you download a ton of porn, expect to get viruses. But that's it. Just unshare all your files that you download.

Trust me, you won't get caught. I've downloaded 12GB worth of music off of limewire and nothing has happened to me. (knock on wood).
