Do you go around trying to tidy up your house/appartment if you know that someone is coming to visit you? Or if you see someone pull into your driveway or coming up the walk, do you tidy up really fast? Or do you just leave it alone?

I was just wondering this because I know on the Golden Girls, they are always trying to tidy up the place before someone gets there and their house always looks good anyway. They go around fluffing up the pillows and so on and so forth.

Fisherman, don't do anything extra for me. I am just a down to earth type person. You are still a sweet heart to me. :)

My house is LIVED IN. I have a relative that won't let you sit in the LIVING room (then what is it if it isn't for LIVING IN?). Don't like the dust, then dust it yourself. Don't like the cobwebs, then kill the cob spiders (yes, there are such things...I just found out a couple of months ago).
If I know you're coming, I make sure I at least have a pair of pants on and if you sneak up on me, I tell you to have a seat while I go put some pants on.
Come on in, kick off your boots, put your feet up and have a drink, but push the dog off HER couch, first.

I live in a small apartment in a big complex. I try to keep things tidied up in spite of being unable to walk. I will spray some room deoderant every day whether anyone's coming or not. BUT I got a new computer desk for Christmas and my daughter is coming tomorrow to move the old one out, store some boxes of sewing items away, move the new desk in, and re-organize things in the bedroom. For the last four days the new desk...in two parts...is sitting in my living room. My power chair is in the middle of the floor; my rollator is wherever I am; my bedroom's a mess, and I have dirty laundry all over the bathroom. I haven't mopped my kitchen since...???...well, before I started baking for Christmas dinner. I HATE THIS! I can't wait until I can get everything back in order. Hurry up, Valerie! Momma needs your help ...again!

I keep the place pretty neat anyhow, but if someone is coming over, I look around to see if there are any glaring oversights. I remember one time thinking everything was just terrific. I was having a visit from our local pastor and had put on some water to make tea. It was my first time with an electric range and I didnt know how to gauge the heat. I didnt know I was a really bad judge until the house started to fill with the most horrible smell. It was the tea kettle burning up on the stove. I'm sure God understood but I'm not so sure about the pastor.

Only my daughter and a friend stops and now with a roommate more people stop in. For a year my house has been a mess, all my time went into making stuff for her wedding and it was so bad that my kids and I all pitched in and now it is clean again and I like it that way. I am not a fanatic but I keep it clean and tidy but I don't do anything special if someone stops in. If I am having people come to stay then I deep clean.

I try to keep my home need & tidy all the time but when I know someone is coming, I make sure the house is extra tidy. If someone pops in unexpectedly, I pick things up as they are pulling into my drive. I shouldn't be that way, since they didn't call ahead of time, but that's me.

I keep my house picked up for the most part, so if someone stops by unexpected things look fine. I do a bit of pillow fluffing and check my face and hair.

I like to have a nice house when people are coming by if someone does not call first then it is between the Golden Girls and Roseanne......Plus know one comes over anymore unless we are friends and my friends come to see me not if I did my dishes or not......I do go nuts if my bathroom is not clean. My home is a home not a house or a museum. When I was a child I grew up in a museum not a home.....it has taken me years to be more like Roseanne and not like the woman who raised me......God Bless the Roseanna's of the world

We have a difficult time being orderly. We check into a motel its a mess in seconds. We go to the daughters sitting our stuff is all over. We do deep cleaning but everything is disorganized. We do not have a basement to store items and i am a pack rat. Hubby puts items in the garbage i come home from work and bring stuff back in the house.

My house is usually very tidy because my memory is so bad!!! I can't find things if it is untidy. I wasn't like this when I was younger, the joy of 'senior years', but really a tidy house is a bonus.
