Welfare is good to young single moms. They don't want to work is the problem.

I can't lash out against anyone for feeling this way. Even though I stayed a virgin until 17 I wanted to have a baby and that is how I felt. I needed someone to show them love and to treat them how a parent should treat her child.
Sometimes you have to realize that people deal with things differently and some might end up taking actions on their feelings. I lived in a family where the word love was like a curse and my mother was (still is) an alcoholic and lots more believe. I am not saying it's ok to go have kids at a young age but you have to learn how to put yourself in another person's shoes. That's a whole other level of maturity.

I think that has a lot to do with what is going on. OR it is the dumb age old thing, they here "you will if you love me" and yes, I know girls can say this to a guy.
Anyway, it's definitely something that needs to be addressed. The burden on the families, taxpayers (yes, young teen parents, we do get tired of paying for underage parents having baby after baby) and the kids themselves is overwhelming.
Girls and Guys are wired differently, girls equate the feelings during sex and also love, the guys respond to the physical side and don't always attach the emotional feelings at the same time. Love and sex are NOT the same thing!

Not a new thing at all. I've been out of high school for 10 and a half years, and I remember how a lot of girls were pregnant in my middle school and high school. My sis is 37, and I remember how many of her friends became pregnant as teens. Nothing new. Actually, teen pregnancy began to decline in the 90s, but has actually been increasing steadily throughout this decade. My opinion is that I attribute the increase to the Bush Administration's absinence only education. Young girls are not being educated on how to protect themselves from pregnancy and stds, because bible thumpers are jamming into their heads that you have to wait until marriage to have sex. But, in reality, how many teens do that? Hormones are a crazy thing and sometimes hard to control. Parents also need to teach their children how to protect themselves, instead of shying away from the whole bird's and bees talk.

I'm not sure they always get pregnant on purpose, but they are having sex way too young. A lot of girls feel they have to do it by 13 or someone will think they are square. This is due to bad parenting. But the main problem is that the girls are not insisting on condoms. I know the whole story guys give girls about they can't enjoy it with a condom or whatever. If these girls only knew that was a ploy to see if they could get by without one they would never give into it. Sure condoms break... but not often and a heck of a lot safer than no protection. I just don't get it. Which is why kids shouldn't have sex so young... they don't know how to handle it, they don't know how to make rational decisions about it.

Is it new...no, but it's becoming more frequent, with the typical age moving back. 15 years ago, it was women in their late 20's.10 years ago, mid 20's. 5 years ago...you do the math.
As for reasons...same as a couple in trouble deliberately getting pregnant...they figure that having a child can solve all the problems in the world, not realising that for every problem solved, the kid creates two more, and triggers one old one to resurface! Then as you said, for having something to love, burt most young girls have no experience with the down side of having kids, and don't want to believe it isn't everything they've ever dreamed of.
Either that, or they see a break-up happening, and "accidentally" forget to use protection, thinking that if she has his kid, he'll stay with her. Unfortunately, for every guy that sticks around, 5 or more head for the hills.

It very well could be. But it's nothing new. Mitt Romney was over 18 when he started 'dating' a 15yr.old girl. Now days there are names for that behavior. When you have little 16 yr old little 'starlets' getting knocked up ,by a young Christian man she met at church, then I say all hope is gone! Hey,at least it serves as a distraction from the real news in America!

Good question. We live in a society where both parents generally work. (I am not against this). Teens make parents feel like they want to be left alone, but really they need more love and attention than ever. If they feel that they are not getting enough love, then they go and look for it. They find it in friends, boyfriends, girlfriends, sex, drugs, booze etc...
Parents need to spend more time with their children while not feeling guilty for working.
Hope this isn't to confusing, but parents who both work tend to compensate by allowing their children to do things that are not okay because they feel guilty. They spoil their children and think that this makes the fact that they work okay.
Parents who both work have NOTHING to be sorry or guilty about!

More and more young girls do seem to be having underage sex (or so rumour has it at my High School). I'm a 14-year-old guy and proud to say that I'm a virgin.
If young girls have underage unprotected sex on purpose to get pregnant, they are putting themselves through hell. Chances are that the young guy won't stay around and the girl will have to look after the baby with the help of her parents and siblings whilst she continues to attend school so that she can obtain her School Certificate.
Young mothers' grades suffer and their babies get neglected, because they have to go to school and study in order to eventually get a job to bring in income to help meet the baby's needs.

I was in the military and was thinking about getting pregnant just so I wouldn't have to work, that's how bad it was but I didn't do it since I can't stand children lol. But I agree that if someone is too young to understand, sex could be mistaken for love.

This is not stupid question at all it is about time somebody asked it. The small town I live in must have the biggest sale of baby buggies in the north of Scotland. The thing is its generally cool to be see on the streets with your buggy, cos you don't have to work, you can see your mates and their buggies at your new Council flat, but one thing you won't see for long is Daddy - in fact since I started watching that Kyle man, I believe such behavior is normal growing up now!! Honestly, I can see the underachievers brought up by baby boomers and they are a complete waste of their hoodies.
