E.StL, has 29 UNSOLVED MURDERS THIS YEAR ALONE ! You decide. On a good note though, the Woman Of The Year award, goes to the 83 year old GrtGrma, that got tired of the noise's the "neighbor" was making at 230am, got up from bed, went to the dresser, pulled out a 'gat, then put 3 'caps through the front door. The next morning, she discovered some guy (dead) with 2 holes in his chest, (NOT a perfect score, but what the hey?) on her front porch. It seems that he pried the burglar bars off the window and was attempting to get the front door open with a screw driver. (is that 'bad' or what ?) WAY TO GO GRANNY !

It's a horrible, run down place!
I used to drive over there for hair care products years ago, but I have watched it become worse than ever.
I was advised by some of the sisters to not even go close to that place.....the people are dangerous there....and they prey on each other more than other races.
I feel so sorry for all the children who HAVE TO live there amidst all the violence and chaos.
@ Kemmosabbi.....Congratulations! So you have a paid Fire Dept, but all of the houses are falling down and mostly uninhabital.....so what's the point?
2. City Services?......I fail to see where, when every corner has tons of garbage laying around, broken furniture and broke-down cars, potholes big enough to swallow a dinosaur.
3. Businesses........Where? Oh, you mean liquor stores and run down food shacks.....wow!
4. New Casino........to keep the residents broke.
5. Why wait for others to improve on your city, when we're not responsible for tearing it down in the first place. IMHO, it's too far gone to make improvements.
6. Police Dept..........why bother, the crime rate is ridiculous.

E. St. Louis is, at this time sort of a forgotten, ignored, and is populated by the hopeless. There is hope for it however, because of its geographical location. Industry will discover the opportunity for developing an economical location for increasing their growth. St. Louis is just across the river, and is now experiencing growth potential that includes unacceptable cost. Because E.St. Louis offers realistic alternatives, in the near future, these alternatives will be accepted. It will probably take at least a decade for the potential existing in this area to be utilized, but it will be. Grim poverty is a reality in E. St. Louis, and when poverty exists, there is really no way to extricate ones self from it. Jobs, and the opportunity for the development of self pride, opportunity for financial growth, including educational opportunity, and the general display of positive change in this area will all contribute to a positive perception.

For those of you still stuck in East St. Louis, Illinois, forgive me...but, it was ran-down and under the mayorship of a funeral director's son, Carl Officer, when I was there. The crime was ridiculously high and I wouldn't allow my kids to sit on the furniture in my living-room because I was afraid of stray bullets (and I lived in what I was told was the "good" side of town). My grandfather's family grew up there and they say it was really nice way back when (we're talking about the 1920's, by the way).

I had a good male friend who was having a couple of drinks one evening and a sniper shot a bullet through the roof of the bar and hit and killed my friend. If you have to drive through E. St. Louis, do it during daylight hours.

East St. Louis ranks right up there with Flint, Newark, Oakland, Patterson, Gary. and Compton as the worst cities in America. The Liberals love to blame it on poverty but we all know that after 6 trillion invested in the "poverty problem," that ain't it, folks.

I've been far removed from the E-STL/STL area for a while, but E-STL was very bad then, and from all news accounts of the area ... things haven't much improved, unfortunately!
