When I was 5ish.. My step dad took me to the state fair in Sacramento... he let go of my hand, then took it again... we continued walking for a while and when I looked up it wasn't my step dad! I guess they both had just grabbed the wrong kids hand... Now... I was one scared little girl! We only lived about 5 miles from the fair grounds, I took off running and didn't quit till I was home! Lord my Mother was mad and so was my Step Dad! I guess it was my mistake !!

If Pennsylvania had a state fair -I never heard about it. But-I have gone to the California State Fair in Pomona. I was a volunteer at a state hospital for severely handicapped children and we used to take them to the fair. They made me appreciate things so much more, because their joy is boundless. We took them to a lot of places, but they really seemed to enjoy the state fair the most. They especially liked the animals and the flowers. I've been to the fair since then, with my own family, but it wasnt quite the same.

Back in the mid-50's I played a game at the Guilford, CT town fair and won a "Chocolate Layer cake". It was the first time I'd ever won anything.
In 1962 we moved to Flushing NY as my Dad worked on the 1964-65 NY Worlds fair project and I got to go on the grounds before it was opened to the public, took pictures which I stll have and cherish to this day. I attended the opening day and closing night.

When I was about 6 or 7, good hearted neighbors took me to the 1940 New York Worlds Fair with their children. I don't remember much of the Fair but it was the furtherest I had ever been from home at that time. It was like another country. I took my own children in 1965, it rained all day and we had trouble finding our car when we decided it was time to head for home. The kids thought we had a great time so that's all that really counted.

It was the fair in the little town next to where we lived. I remember us going together as a family each year and how I loved everything about it-the sights, sounds, smells-loved the food! Going to a fair is still one of my favorite things to do. That fair grounds is long gone, as a matter of fact my mom lives in a house on the site of the old fair grounds now and I think of those memories when I visit her.---Luvs

Big Tex! Being a Texan, we attended the fair and they have Big Tex. He made his debut at the 1952 State Fair of Texas. Wearing size 70 boots and a 75-gallon hat, Tex towered 52' above wide-eyed visitors . This statue greets all visitors to the fair grounds and I remember his booming voice that said "Howdy Folks!" and broadcast fair announcements as well.

I only went to one. I was about seven or eight and my dance class did a show at the L.A. county fair. My folks took my brothers and me. I had a beautiful dress for the show and I only turned the wrong way once. My dad let us each have a little turtle to take home. I guess he had temporary insanity. It sure was great fun. I'm glad the Clydesdale horse didn't step on my foot until after I had danced!

When I was nine years old, I wanted Daddy to take me to the county fair but he wasn't interested. My sweet uncle took me even though I doubt if he was really interested in being there. We rode the Tilt-a-Whirl and for me in 1950 that was a BIG DEAL! Nothing after that compared to a whole evening with my uncle at the fair.

We never went to any fairs because we couldn't afford it. But as a young woman in her 20's, I remember performing in a belly-dancing exhibition. I was petrified that people would laugh at me because I was a chubby girl in a leotard. I have no memory of anyone laughing. But I couldn't wait to get back into the changing tent and put my clothes back on.
