Some people believe that they are signs of paranormal activity in photographs (and in rare occasions they are), but usually they are due to dust in the air, or imperfections in the lens. Digital cameras are notorious for these. To determine the significance of orbs, you must look at where they are, and if you are looking at digital video, how they behave. Do they seem to move in a meaningful way, or are they just randomly floating around with the breeze. I did see some orbs on a photograph of a friend of mine who was trance-dancing around a ritual fire -- those orbs I consider to be significant.

Some people believe that they are spirits captured in a photograph. (This is disputed because you can add these white circles onto a photograph, or it can be an optical illusion with the lighting in the photo.)
I have had personal experience and I don't believe all "orbs" are authentic spirits, though I do think they are real. I have a photo that a friend of mine took, made no edits to, I was there when the photo was taken, and a week after a local soldier had passed, she was taking a team photo, and an orb came out on the picture. Surrounding the soldier's younger brother, who is on the team. It was authentic.

Spirit or Ghost Orb
The Orb Theory based on the findings of our field investigations and through our research. It is discovered that an orb represented the soul of a departed person. The soul being the essence of who they were in life, complete with their intelligence, their emotions and their personality. The orb or sphere is common in our every day lives. The earth and moon are spheres. Our blood cells are sphere shaped. The vision of Black Elk describes hoops within hoops. We use the symbol of the circle to represent eternal existence, with no beginning nor end. When the spirit is moving about, its shape is an orb, but when it comes to rest, meaning that it is no longer in motion, the spirit energy that is compressed within the orb is released and this spirit energy expands into what we call Ecto-Vapor or Ectoplasm. Often an orb will contain more than one soul and when its spirit energy is released, multiple orbs flow forth from the single orb. The orb may be observed as a small white sphere shooting through a room and through a wall. When recorded on film, the orb size is often confused because the photo is only 2D and its size is dependent on how far from the lens the orb is when captured by the camera.

People suggest that orbs are forms of beings or ghosts, that are traveling to or from the spirit realm. There are photographs with "orbs" in them, but they are just pieces of dust on the camera lens, or near it. If you are spiritual, then i am sorry for saying that last thing, and they are spirits from the other world.

The term orb is the popular name given to typically circular anomalies appearing in photographs. In photography and video, orbs appear to be balls, diamonds, or smears of light with an apparent size in the image ranging from a golfball to a basketball depending on the distance of the dust particle to the lens. Orbs sometimes appear to be in motion, leaving a trail behind them.

There are two main trains of thought regarding the cause of orbs in photographs. The first school sees it as a fairly clear-cut case of flash or ambient light reflection off of dust, particles, insects, or moisture droplets in the air in front of the camera distorted by the digital cameras CCD lens being unable to focus, i.e. they are naturalistic. The opposing school maintains that orbs are paranormal in nature and spirits, i.e. non-naturalistic and ghost like.

In paranormal terms, orbs are balls of energy, or a ghost trying to manifest. But most orb pictures are simply moisture or dust particles.

I have seen them. I am a born again Christian and I have seen them. The feeling I got when I first saw one was, "Pure energy". After some research I'll tell you what I think they are. I think they are the unsaved souls of the dead. Now that's just my opinion.
After seeing them a few times I let one know I saw him/her and it came at my face! I then prayed to God to help me understand if it was from him or if it wasn't to not let me see them again. I haven't seen them now in years.
They looked like a ball of light that had lightening in it. It was about as big as a large grapefruit.
