I had the absolute best parents....

I was spoiled, but I didn't realize it.

My folks made sure we had what we needed without excess.

We were spoiled with our parents time. They were there for every sport, activity and heartache.

If I do half as well as my parents did I'll be pretty proud of myself.

Yes, horribly. I was one of those kids whose parents made sure they never "wanted" for anything.
Now that I am a Mother and have tried their way of raising kids I have found out that the more you give the more respect you loose. Both of my kids are spoiled and seem to not care about anything except materialistic items.
I talk to them, I try to tell them that you cannot take it with you, but if I don't give it to them then Grandma or Grandpa will. It's almost as if I am fighting a losing battle.
I have tried to teach them about love and life and working but they always throw up in my face about my childhood.
By the way, they do work. They do live on their own, they are 22 & 23 and I have forced them to learn about personal responsibility.
Now I have a granddaughter and am using a completely different approach. Don't know if it will work, but you should gain things out of respect, not only out of want.

Although I have an older brother and older sister I was an only child in the house so yeah I was although I had to sacrifice certain things and do good in school to get what I wanted so in a way not really but yes if that makes any sense to you at all.

Hell no.

I had my own business as a kid. I'd cut grass, rake leaves and shovel driveways all year. By the time I was 13, I had the entire neighborhood. My family was really poor and at times, I was bringing in more money than my parents were.
