There is no correct scientific answer to this question, in fact it is no scientific question! This is a philosophical question which is asked to analysis the evolution (or creation) theory. Do not be trouble by the question, focus on the meaning...

Chicken or egg? Like a hall of mirrors at the carnival, each attempt at an answer just leads to another question. If the chicken came first, then didn't it hatch from an egg? And if the egg came first, wasn't it laid by a chicken? It's one of those questions that seem unanswerable.
First, if you believe in evolution, then the chicken egg came first. To over simplify this answer, the theory of evolution believes that at one point in time, a bird species very similar to the modern chicken, let’s call this a proto-chicken, mated with another proto-chicken. Whatever the reason or reasons, a genetic change occurred in the egg created by the proto-chicken, thus a chicken egg was created instead of a proto-chicken egg.
Alternatively, since evolution is typically very gradual, most likely at no point in time was a chicken egg created from a proto-chicken. Instead, each generation of proto-chicken produced another animal that was even more genetically similar to the modern chicken; and after a long period of time, eventually this produced the modern chicken species. Since the science of taxonomy does not easily distinguish between intermediate species of animals, at no point in time did a proto-chicken produce a chicken egg. Furthermore, it is believed that all species, even current species, are only intermediate animals, thus labeling them as species is technically vague. As a result, the proto-chicken species did eventually produce the chicken species; however there is not a clear delineation between proto-chicken and chicken. Therefore, the second answer to this famous adage is that there is no definitive classification of either a chicken or chicken egg, so it is impossible to determine which came first.
Finally, if you believe in religion, then God (or whatever entity that you may believe in) directly created the chicken. There is no logic that can be examined with this belief. As a result, the third answer is that God created the chicken first.
Therefore, the paradox of "Which came first, the chicken or the egg?" can be unraveled into three completely different answers. It is up to you to decide which answer is correct.

ok, basic evolutionary theory: the chickens predecessor (the animal that evolved into the chicken) laid an egg, that hatched a chicken. So the egg containing the chicken came first. The egg in general also came before the chicken, because dinosaurs laid eggs too, and they came way way before chickens. This is the only way it could have happened, unless of course you believe a magical creature just created everything the way it is today, then the chicken came first.

This question proves either you are an evolutionist or a creationist.
The evolutionist will state the Chicken came first as it evolved from a lesser form of life and subsequently created the egg to continue the lifeline of its species.
The creationist will state the Egg came first as it was magically created by some higher power to provide the life which came forth from it.

If we look at it as if all chickens have identical DNA then the egg must have been first with that DNA. Since the DNA is identical to the DNA at its birth, when it was an egg.
A chicken like ancestor was exposed to radiation and the DNA of its offspring was altered to produce todays chicken (in the egg)

God is first,,,,, He created .........
This is a good question, and one that has plagued mankind for centuries. Indeed, which did come first? On one side, you have the egg advocates, who say that you cannot have a chicken unless it hatched from an egg. On the other side of the debate are the “right-wing” chicken experts, who say that you cannot have an egg unless a chicken lays it.
I can answer this question very simply…no other animal described in the creation account in Genesis began in the embryonic stage. It is safe to assume that God created the chicken first and then the eggs were sure to come. Just remember: don’t count your chickens before they’re hatched.
Scrambled eggs, anyone ?

The egg. But what laid it was the last ancestor of the modern-day chicken, i.e. something which bred with another individual to produce what we call the chicken. It would have been extremely similar to the Jungle Fowl that lives even to this day in Asian jungles.

The chicken and the egg is a causality dilemma, it has no correct solution as you can always argue that which ever you pick could not exist without the other.
Aristotle himself pondered the problem and eventually concluded that both must have always existed.

The egg. Prehistoric animals of various kinds were laying eggs millions of years before chickens evolved - the dinosaurs, for example.
