I know the answer, even Manning knows the answer since the moment he came to the league chose #18 because he would never be ahead of Johnny U.

But what anyone else thinks?

I also know that they played in completely different eras.

Born in 1953, I was a sports nut, and growing up my world revolved around Johnny Unitas and Mickey Mantle. Now you can not play QB better than Payton Manning, but what does best mean?? I think it means years and years down the road who are people going to be talking about, who is in their hearts. Elway, Marino, Montana, Staubach, etc.... etc..., were all great QBs and on a physical level at least as good as Johnny U., yet even though all those guys played much more recently, I think people talk more about Unitas than any other QB, I do not think that is going to change for Manning or Brady, Johnny U will always be the greatest to me!!

Johnny Unitas was a great QB, but Manning is the Colt QB ever.

It's tough to say. They played in different eras. The rules are so different now that help the receivers and push up scoring, so Manning's number are going to be higher. If Unitas had the same rules he may have had much bigger and untouchable numbers. They're both great in their own rights and a comparison isn't really worth it.

yeah peyton is much better than unitas and is the best colts qb ever because he was much more efficient and made less mistakes on the field. Unitas had a Hall of Fame supporting cast though and he was great partly because of that

Johnny U played under a different set of rules than Peyton. When Johnny played, you could mugged the receiver after 5 yards. With all due respect to Peyton, Johnny was better.
Let's wait and see what happens when Peyton's career is over and revisit it then.
FYI...Johnny does not consider himself an Indy member. He considers himself part of the Ravens because they play in Baltimore.

Payton Manning will be arguably the best QB to play football when he is done playing. Oh yeah, he will break most if not all of Brett Favre's records, including the consecutive game record. Take it to the bank.

Yes he is the best Colts QB ever.... statistically, and when its all said and done he may be considered the best QB to ever play the game. But lets wait and see what kind of impression he makes when he is gone to make that judgment.

Yes...different eras and much different competition. You cant really say one is better than the other because the level of competition was so different.
