I'm on my dad's medical insurance, and I think it covers birth control. But I don't want to go through that, because I just don't really feel like it's any of his business since I'm 19. So I'm curious, how much would birth control (let's say pills) cost if I straight up bought them? You can do that right?

Also...I've been reading a lot about Seasonique, how you only get 4 periods a year. Can I ask the gyno for this? Can I request that particular pill? Or does he pretty much put you on whatever he wants to? I'm under 35, non-smoker, with low blood pressure.

Oh well thanks.

Birth control pills are $11 - $13 plus dispensing fee. Seasonique is $171 for 91 tablets.

If you choose a BCP that has a generic version, they can be fairly inexpensive, also insurance companies usually require you to go with a generic if available. Last I knew, Seasonique does not have a generic, so I'm thinking it will be pretty expensive. However, several of the generic pills can be taken continuously where you would start a new pack on the 3rd week instead of taking the placebo week & then you would take the placebo week every 3 months to allow yourself to have a period. So talk to your doc about that option. Its the same way Seasonique works, just that packaging is different. Hope that helps.

First of all, Thank you for being responsible!! I am 20, and my dad's insurance did NOT cover BC Pills...so I waited until my Ob Gyn appt, and asked to be put on BC, she then gave me 2 months free of Zovia..($30/month w/o insurance)Now that I have my own insurance its only $7/month, which is VERY Cheap compared to paying for a child you're not ready for!! Also Planned Parenthood will give you some for a small fee or free if you are in school.. If you are not then I am not sure what the cost is... As far as picking your own BC, some doctors give you a few choices, then you pick what you want..Good Luck!

Planned Parenthood does provide b/c at a very reasonable cost. They also provide medical services such as pap/pelvic exams, sti testing including HIV,and education about your own body....if you do not have a Planned Parenthood in your area there should be a health department you can go to....also if you get a prescription for oc's Walmarts have several brands for $9.00 a month

Check with planned parenthood.

With insurance it runs $25-30 a month. Without, it around $75-100.

Talk to your OB/GYN about all the different options of BC. Packs of pills will run about $25-$35 per month depending on the brand/type. Be prepared when you visit your doctor regarding the type of BC you are interested in. He will give you the pros and cons.

You can go to planned parenthood or a free clinic in your area and they can give them to you for free. Otherwise they are pretty expensive.

You can request whatever type of pill you want, but your insurance may not cover it. If you go to planned parenthood, they will give you basic BCPs and nothing special.

It is none of your father's business, and by federal law, he may not know what you are being seen for or what you are taking unless you give your written permission for him to know.

You can still get the birth control under your father's insurance. They are not permitted to tell him what medications you are on.
