pain usually dies down after bout 6months but usually comes back to haunt you anything up to 5yrs later and gives you nothing but trouble after that and even having everything done that you can the now doesnt stop the return

The tail bone itself will last until surgically removed...
The bruising, assuming you don't repeat the situation, will go down in a few weeks, with the "sensitivity" lasting a few months. Now...if you "bruised" the bone, it'll last a very long time. If you damaged the tissues in immediate proximity ot the bone iteself, you could be wincng while sitting for several months.
I damaged a joint in my wrist in June. I was in a cast for two weeks, and I still have to put a tensor on it periodically. It also still hurts when I stress the wrist (like when playing tug of war with my sister's 10 kilo dog).

It depends on the severity of injury. Mine was broken, and it was a pain in the butt :-) for a good year. Get a "rubber donut" to sit on and take the pressure off, especially for long drives, air travel or other times you will be seated for an extended period. It's annoying to carry it around, but it will hurt less to sit and you will heal faster.

Mine lasted a 4 months but I went to the chiropractor and he put heat on it when I could tolerate lying on my back and it felt great! I slipped on a patch of ice at my work and I wasnt able to walk very well. I was in severe pain.

The last time I bruised my tail bone it hurt for about 6 months. Made me wish the flesh on my rear was a lot bigger in order to save my tail bone! LOL...
