I've come to the conclusion that the hassle of Xmas is not worth it. I'm only going to concentrate on doing things for the children in our extended family and ditch the traditional B.S. stuff. No more travelling, trees, etc...........It causes too much stress for everyone, even throws the kids schedule off making them very miserable. I don't know who benefits from any of this, as the tradition is a MAJOR CHORE for everyone now....and is looked forward to with dread. Are you with me?

Wow-no one can make the holiday a hassle or an issue for you with out you letting them. I choose to enjoy all the programs, gatherings, celebrations, and fun. I love to bake and decorate and spend time with those I love. I shop all year for little gifts for family and freinds and I am often done shopping in November. The holiday is what you make it-if you let others ruin the spirit of the season for you then yeah it will likely be just a hassle. If you jump in and enjoy the time and make your own traditions it is great fun. I look forward to it every year.

And I am not even very religous nor is most of my family-we are just big fans of the ALL that Christmas is. Only 364 days till Christmas 2008:)

Our entire family cut way back on our purchasing for Christmas this year and everyone was much happier. We all just got together, ate, socialized and enjoyed the children opening and playing with their presents. I still like to decorate and will continue to do so, but the hassle of running around stressing about what to get this aunt or that uncle, etc. was eliminated and made Christmas much more enjoyable.

I felt this way at the beginning of this December. Then we had a couple deaths in our family and it made me realize just how precious they all are to me. I have a HUGE family and it is very stressful, but I will never give it up... and I will never take the "I'm not dealing with it this year" attitude again. Life is too short, family is too precious and traditions are meant to be passed on... Major chore or not... I'm always going to enjoy from here on.

Bah Humbug Lives!!

We use our fake plastic ficus tree with a few colored lites for a tree (leave the lites in year round just not lit up). That and we do the holiday shopping usually in November (while doing other things as well).

If the house lites take more than 15 mins to put up, too much effort (ours go up in 5 mins around our front door and an extra 10 mins for front & back windows).

Basically, as the saying goes "Tis better to give than to receive...". Giving means the effort is done with packaging and delivery. No more required!

I don't know about Xmas, but Christmas on the other hand is a Christian holiday. If your not Christian than by all means, there is no need for you to celebrate it whatsoever. And if you are Christian, it doesn't say anywhere that you have to buy gifts and put up decorations, just go to church if you can.

I'm with you. The expectations to get gifts and spend money sucks. Always thought Christmas was supposed to be about spending time with family. Not how much money did you spend or how many gifts did you buy.

i thoroughly enjoy Christmas! the trick is to celebrate it in a way that makes you feel good and skip trying to live up to someone else's expectations...reflecting on the 'reason for the season' helps tremendously
