It is worth at least fifty cents. The upper bound seems to be about $4.00, if it is in absolutely perfect condition, never circulated, etc., although there are more expensive ones available on eBay.

In short, if you got this back as change or won it from a slot machine, then it's only worth 50 cents. However, if you acquired it in a pristine coin collection, then it may be worth more, given you can find a buyer.

Unfortunately, the 1971 half dollar that was placed into circulation does not contain silver. The 1965 through 1970 half dollars contain 40% silver. The 1964 and prior half dollars contain 90% silver.

There is an exception to the rule. The 1976 half dollar is 40% silver but these were sold only in special collector sets.

Your 1971 half dollar is probably worth 50 cents (its face value).

it could be worth a few bucks-- depends upon mintmark and condition. For instance, if you have one from the Philadelphia Mint that is certified MS-65 and encapsulated by one of the major grading services it lists at $12 or one from the Denver Mint in the same condition, $5. A proof version is $3.

The 1971 was a popular year and there is no longer silver content, so most are 50 cents...
