There is more than one type of bibliography. What is most commonly referred to as a bibliography is the listing of source materials that is included at the end of a paper, chapter or book. It is important to note that the bibliographical format varies according to the academic style you are using to write your paper. For example, in MLA style (commonly used in the humanities) the bibliography is referred to as "Works Cited", while in APA (commonly used in psychology and other social sciences) the bibliography is simply titled "References" and both styles have specific ways of presenting bibliographic information. These are the two most common styles but there are also many others, each usually specific to a single discipline.
A second type of bibliography commonly encountered is the annotated or critical bibliography. The annotated bibliography is an academic work in its own right and is used to develop the researchers thinking on a particular topic and can also help future researchers interested in the same topic. In addition to the information contained in a standard bibliography, the annotated bibliography also includes a short summary of each work, an evaluation of its usefulness and reliability as well as critical reflection on how the work may be useful in terms of the current research project, how it could fit into a specific line of argument and the effect that the particular work has had on the researchers view of the subject.

Bibliography[1] (from Greek: βιβλιογÏαÏία, bibliographia; lit. book writing) in its most general sense is the academic study of books as physical, cultural objects. On the whole, bibliography is not concerned with the literary content of books, but rather the "bookness" of books. Bibliography is sometimes used to refer to a works cited page, but is more generally meant to refer to any catalogue of books that follows an organized bibliographic approach. The medium a bibliography can take varies, as it can be a reference list at the end of an article or book, a bound catalogue such as those shown on the right, or an internet database.
Bibliographic works differ in the amount of detail depending on the purpose, and can be generally divided into two categories: enumerative bibliography (also called compilative, reference or systematic), which results in an overview of publications in a particular category, and analytical, or critical, bibliography, which studies the production of books.[2][3] Bibliographical works are almost always considered to be tertiary sources.

A bibliography is a list of references that you used to do some research. It gives credit to the people that did some research and helped you out. It also shows other people 1) whether or not you completely plagiarized and 2) how reliable your sources are. It usually has a strict format, but there are websites that can help you with that. My favorite is easybib.com. Hope that helps!

a list of the books/websites/whatever you used to write something. basically you're giving credit to the people that got all the info that you used. otherwise you would be saying that you knew all the information.
