Let UV = x
TU = y

tan tan
tan 36.2 = x/y
tan 51.2 = (x + 12.5)/y

y tan 36.2 = x
y tan 51.2 = x + 12.5

y tan 51.2 = y tan 36.2 + 12.5
y (tan 51.2 - tan 36.2) = 12.5
y = 12.5 / (tan 51.2 - tan 36.2)
y = 24.421

TU = 24.421 meters

Don't forget cot x = tan (90-x).

cot 38.8 = UW / TU
cot 53.8 = UV / TU
UW - UV = 12.5

Looks like solving those equations simultaneously.

UW = UV + 12.5.
So TU cot 38.8 = UV + 12.5
and TU cot 53.8 = UV.
Subtracting,
TU (cot 38.8 - cot 53.8) = 12.5
Answer follows from there.

I don't know who your teacher is but um...your deffinately working with the angles here and i'm better with sides. you could try and find the measure of the hypotenuse and then go from there finding the short leg then the long one which is tu.

Good luck

I think so........
cot 38.8 = UW / TU
cot 53.8 = UV / TU
UW - UV = 12.5

Looks like solving those equations simultaneously.

UW = UV + 12.5.
So TU cot 38.8 = UV + 12.5
and TU cot 53.8 = UV.
Subtracting,
TU (cot 38.8 - cot 53.8) = 12.5

let h = TU and x = UV

tan 53.8 = h/x
tan 38.8 = h/(x+12.5)
you can solve for h from here.

Here is my approx.
h = 1.37 x
h = (x+12.5)0.8
1.37x = 0.8x + 10.05
x = 17.6
h = 24.1
