I have a 2 gas vehicles. I was wondering if it is better to let them warm up or get in and go during the winter. If it is better to let them warm up, how long? My diesel takes bout 15 minutes before it will groan out of the driveway.

I normally give it just a minute or two. That lets the oil start flowing in the engine. While it is warming up, I check the mirror, adjust the volume on the radio, put my seat belt on.

I also try and take it easy on the engine until it starts coming up to temperature. I try to keep the engine rpm as low as I can.

It is best to warm them up enough so that if the windshield fogs over as you enter, from your body heat, that the defroster will be able to counteract it. I learned this the hard way. I jumped in, took off as usual, then 1 mile down the road my window fogs over. I went to the shoulder started slowing down, bent over to look out the 1" area that the defroster had cleared only to see an abandoned car directly in front of me. I managed to swerve and miss most of the impact, but still caught my mirror and door on the mirror of the parked car, thus ruining my right door. Thankfully there was not another car overtaking me, or the results could have been a lot worse.
Therefore, DON'T ever just jump in and take off. Give it a chance to warm up a little.

No, start out right away and go slow. The faster you warm it up, the sooner the engine will lean out. The longer you run cold, the longer it runs rich and begins to dilute your oil. Not so much with fuel injection, anymore but it still does. Besides, if you sit, don't complain about mileage.
