Some do, some don't. There are many different ways to destroy your life with alcohol. This is one of them, but not the only one.

With all respect to those above that issued a mere "yes" to your questions, there is not a single answer to your questions -- there are different types of alcoholics.

Some do indeed spend most of every day drunk.

I, however, was mostly a binge drinker. I could go for several days without drinking, and then made up for that time in a big way. But toward the end of my "drinking career" I was basically out seven nights a week, getting ripped -- and then clawing my way through work the next day. And though I would miss a fair number of details [such as paying bills on time], I don't recall ever forgetting what day it was.

And to answer your last question, I was depressed much of the time. Very glad I found AA and truly worked the program. After 5+ years of sobriety, I have never been happier or more in control of my life.

There are all kinds of alcoholics. Some alcoholics need to drink everyday, starting in the mornings. Some are alcoholics they need to drink every evenings. Alcoholics built up a tolerance and do remember things.

These people are wrong. Most alcoholics have a very high tolerance for alcolhol and rarely "blackout." Most alcoholics are depressed, thats why they drink so much, but not ALL alcoholics are depressed, some just like the way they feel when they are drunk or drinking.
