The ACLU is sacrificing America!

2007-12-26 05:56:28 · answer #1 · answered by No Black Box 5 · 3 5

The frightening thing is how many people think that the ACLU is actually fighting for every body's rights.

The ACLU is pursuing a political agenda where they determine what 'rights' we should and should not have.

For example: when was the last time the ACLU fought gun control laws? This is an example of a right they they feel we should not have.

The ACLU serves America with its heart and sole to preserve the rights guaranteed in the Constitution for ALL of the people. Their sacrifice is little more than time and money.

The Armed forces serve America with its heart and sole to protect America from those that would destroy us, and to protect other powerless people of the world suffering grave injustice at the hands of the ruthless. Their sacrifice is time away from their families, in blood, in limb, in life.

Clearly the sacrifice is greater for the Armed forces, but so is the danger. One must get in harms way to put down an armed enemy. One need not do so to battle injustice in law.

It's 2 very different ways of life. You don't ask a librarian how many fires they've fought, or ask a teacher how many electrical lines they've repaired.

For those conservatives that think the ACLU is the enemy of Christianity and therefore nothing but evil, check this out...

It's not the ACLU's job to make sacrifices....their job is to make sure that the soldiers' sacrifices aren't in vain, by protecting the rights that they fight for. Oh, and for Mr. "they should just go away" above.... We may not like what they have to say, but making sure that Nambla, and the Nazis have the right to say what they want, is the only way to make sure that we can say what we want. You can't have it both ways. It's not just free speech for those you agree with.

Try as I might, I cannot find a logical connection in your question. The ACLU defends litigants in Constitutional cases, what would you like this organization to do to make sacrifices? Exactly what sacrifices do you think they could make? Completely illogical.

Considering their roles are totally different it is like comparing apples to oranges. What sacrifice, military or not , have you made for America?

The ACLU is defending your freedom in REALITY, by defending the application of laws with even-handed fairness and justice (that means that even the scum of the earth get the same legal rights as YOU do)

One of the main characteristics of German fascism was the capricious and arbitrary application of law, depending on your politics, race or "use" to the state. The ACLU makes sure that doesn't happen here, even when they have to defend people that nobody much likes. Likability is not the point of the ACLU.

The armed forces in Iraq are merely defending Bush's reputation as a liar, with no chance to vote on the matter and no ACLU to protect them from the abuses of power.

What sacrifices does the average American make for our troops aside from the arduous task of applying a bumper sticker to their 14 mpg pickup truck, and waving a little American flag made in Taiwan during football games?

You got that right. Nothing.

People who diss the ACLU are, to my mind, beyond redemption when it comes to pig-headed ignorance.

Many ACLU members and supporters have given their lives, both literally and in service defending the rights of all Americans. While the actual numbers pale in comparison to the sacrifices made by our military, their service is of no less importance.

I for one find this "Liberal wish list", by a bunch of "Fascists", and "trouble makers" worth supporting.

"The mission of the ACLU is to preserve all of these protections and guarantees:

* Your First Amendment rights - freedom of speech, association and assembly; freedom of the press, and freedom of religion.
* Your right to equal protection under the law - equal treatment regardless of race, sex, religion or national origin.
* Your right to due process - fair treatment by the government whenever the loss of your liberty or property is at stake.
* Your right to privacy - freedom from unwarranted government intrusion into your personal and private affairs."
