Dimensions higher than our four (time and 3 spatial) are simply mathematical constructs. They are useful for solving problems that cannot be solved with just the four observable dimensions of our known universe. These higher dimensions are useful because they allow solutions where none could be found with just the 4D we can see.
Curvilinear coordinates is a branch of vectors analysis. You learn curvilinear coordinates and you will lean all about higher dimensions and how to use them to solve problems in our own 4D world. Linear algebra also makes use of higher dimensions; in fact LA and vectors analysis do pretty much the same kinds of problem, but use different approaches to solve them.
Oh, to a point, the 5th and 6th dimensions are whatever the mathematician defines them to be. They only have meaning when put into the equations because they are not real in the sense that we can sense them like time, length, width, and height.

Do you mean in string theory? I don't know the details, but I've heard that one of the string theories (or conjectures) calls for 10 space-like diminsions, of which 3 are the big ones we experience every day, and the others are all wrapped up so you would have to go the distance of less than a proton diameter to go all the way around one of those dimensions. When I say all the way around, I mean in the sense that you are always looking at the back of your head, and if you went straight long enough, you would be back where you started (although, it might take longer than the time left in the cosmos for you to do that) (in one of the regular, big dimensions, I mean).
Then, outside of string theory, there is the membrane, or "brane", theory or conjecture. This says there is another dimension besides the three spatial dimensions we know from everyday experience and the time dimension we sort of understand. They say that gravity works through the extra dimension but the other three forces we know of do not (the quantum mechanical forces). And they say that there is a number of three-spaces arrayed across this extra dimension, not always right next to each other or in contact, and the one we live in is one of those.

Physical dimensions in the Universe are expressed in three dimensional vectors which is the basis of Vector analysis.
It is possible to express stress in mass structure or space structure in more than three dimensions. Such an analysis uses multidimensional vectors called "Tensors"
Time is not really a physical dimension. So to call Time a 4th dimension is a misnomer. The Reason is that Time is really a Quantity that indicates how fast a process is taking Place.
Never the less Time levels exist in space just like there are pressure levels of Gravity in the space Within the containment volume of the Universe.

The Fifth Dimension is a chart topping R&B group composed of five singers. Their major hits were in the late 60s and early 70s. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Fifth_Dimension . There was no Sixth Dimension.
...............................................
No wait, I reread the problem. For a better explaination then I could ever give, see the Wikipedia article on the math and science of a fifth dimension. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fifth_dimension . You can also watch the video on imagine the 10th Dimension here http://www.tenthdimension.com/flash2.php . It counts dimension up from 1 to 10

The 5th dimension contains alternate outcomes to the current timeline, whereas the sixth dimension contains ALL the outcomes.
Think of it like a fork in the road for the fifth dimension, ad the roadmap for the sixth.

The 5th Dimension was a pop group from the 60's with such lame hits as "Up, Up, And Away".
I hope the 6th Dimension was better.

Imaging your living in 4th dimension, then 5th dimension is the time. Imaging your living in 5th dimesion, then 6 th dimension is the time. Living in 5th dimension can be maging by living in 4th dimension.
