2000, when he left the Mariners and signed a record 10 year - 252 million dollar contract with Tom Hicks and the Texas Rangers. I live in Seattle, and lived here then. A-Rod kept saying to the Seattle Times press during the 2000 season, that he wanted to talk extension after the season and that it WASN'T GOING TO BE ABOUT MONEY. Yeah right, he turned into pay-rod, because Boras and his agency created all of these charts, and multi-color graphs, that Corporations use for Corporate mergers, etc. He showed what A-Rod's future stats will be, etc. and that he will eventually be a Hall of Famer, and he basically created this unreal market price for A-Rod and put it on a line, well, Tom Hicks took a bite from it, and thus set into motion Pay-Rod, a guy who went from making 5 million a year in Seattle to the 20-30 million dollar a year range, just based on the HYPE that Boras created. Now, when the question is posed, is A-Rod worth the kinda money he is getting paid with the Yankees,

25-35 million a year, people say yes most of the time, because they have seen the unreal numbers he has put up the past 7 years since he signed the huge contract, and they basically have bought into the hype created by Scott Boras. Maybe A-Rod is worth that to the big market Yankees, because they make the money back from selling his jersey's, YES network, etc. But still, to the average fan out there like me and you, who scrapes by to earn a living, this guy is not worth the money he is getting paid. He just signed a 10 year 300 million dollar extension with the Yankees, come on, that's a lot of money to play a game. And this was all created by the master Illusionist Scott Boras. And for all this money, you know how many World Series rings A-Rod has??? ZERO. So, he's really not worth it in my opinion. My question is, do you think that Scott Boras created this unrealistic market value for A-Rod based on his illusions, or is A-Rod really worth 100's of millions of dollars?

Hey idiot, you are the sucker who has to PAY extra money because these fools like PAY-ROD make all of this money. It gets thrown back on the fans like YOU who go to YANKEE STADIUM. Don't you think the Yankees have raised ticket prices since having huge payrolls? It means that suckers like YOU have to pay more for tickets. I rarely go to Mariner games, however, when I do, I get the cheap seats and move down. People are suckers to pay $100 for a ticket to see a game. Also, the Yankees get a cut from those $8 beers you buy, $6 dollar hot dogs, etc, $20 parking, etc, etc, etc. THESE PLAYERS ARE ONLY WORTH IT TO THE TEAMS BECAUSE THE TEAMS CHARGE MORE TO IDIOT FANS LIKE YOU, and as long as you keep paying to go to games, these teams can keep afford paying these jerks 25 million a year.

It's ridiculous what he's making. Boras created this over paid, untouchable monster. I just knew when he opted out (poor timing..during gm 4 WS) there would be no other team able to afford him. Even though Steinbrenner was quoted as saying "good-bye", I knew he'd be back. Boras pushed an envelope that had no business being pushed and no place else to be pushed. Personally, I was looking foward to his departure. While he almost single handedly got the Yankees to the playoffs, just the same he had a large part in having them eliminated in the 1st round. It's the same old story with him in October, he cannot come through. As a Yankee, a player is judged by his ability to perform in the postseason. If not for his return, I get ill thinking of all the pitching/prospects we could've gotten for him. Bottom line-Boras really screwed up and A-Rod was forced to go behind his back to save his hide, not to mention maintaining that ridiculous salary. There's no way he would've taken a pay cut. When a player says it's not about the money it's usually ALL about the money!

I can see how this argument started, because of the obvious gap between perceived reality and reality itself. I think it's funny the philosophers who first discovered this idea are all dead, and the world they believed might all be an illusion continued to turn without them. Anyway, there's several serious arguments against this. Mine isn't that serious. The way I see it, if all the world is merely an illusion created in my own mind, I would never have come up with the word "periwinkle," and Pluto would never have been demoted to non-planetary status. No way. But, due to the possibility of mental illness, I can't tell you for sure if some of the people around you are no more than a figment of your imagination. When the existence of something is almost universally agreed upon, though, you can usually bet it's real.

Either A-Rod is worth the money that these owners are willing to pay him, or Boras and A-Rod do it all with smoke and mirrors and they have "duped" these owners into thinking A-Rod is better than he actually is. I believe these owners are shrewd business men that don't make big mistakes. They know very well the value of A-Rod and what he can bring to a team and offers are extended in a range equal to his market value.

Yes, he is worth 100's of millions because he helps generate BILLIONS of dollars worth of revenue for the Yankees, YES, and MLB. Don't hate A-Rod because he is going after his rightful share of all of that revenue. I've said it before and I'll say it again, would you rather A-Rod got paid $500,000 a year and the Steinbrenners pocketed $2 billion? There is billions of dollars out there from what A-Rod does, don't hate on him because he wants his cut. I am sure that in your pie in the sky eutopia, teachers get paid $2 million a year and athletes make $35,000 but in the real world, people pay $200 a ticket for box seats at Yankee Stadium, not your daughter's spelling bee.
Save your little tirade, I am not a Yankees fan and I haven't been to a MLB game in 10 years. I am not the "idiot" paying these prices, you are getting all hot and bothered about simple economics, period. Don't get pissed at the world because you don't do something that generates a billion dollars in revenue and gains you a 7-figure salary. I don't know what you do, but if people paid $200 a ticket to watch you do whatever it is you do (pick your nose), you would want your fair cut too.

A-Rod is NOT worth that much money...PERIOD! He will not generate that much money for the NY Yankees no matter what anyone says. If it were a team that doesn't draw, than an argument could be made that spending that much and possibly becoming a contender would generate alot of cash (i.e. TEXAS RANGERS) but that is NOT the case for the NY Yankees. If he actually did leave they wouldn't have lost a dime. Not to mention that is alot of money for a player who cannot perform in the post season; because if he really was the best player in baseball, as that contract suggests, he would be able to hit when it really counts!

Baseball is a BUSINESS.
In business you're worth what someone's willing to pay for you. He doesn't make the salary he makes because of any hype - he makes that much because he's the best player in the game.
I'm a little confused, are you saying A-Rod isn't a legendary player?
EDIT: Hahahaha - GREAT point Frizzer - looks like "barret" is another "Legend" with multiple accounts.
After 3 minutes of research I came across these "coincidences" - look at the best answers:

You're all wrapped up about something that's beyond your control.
Its simple - Don't watch him play. But don't watch Ichiro either. Didn't he sign a nice contract recently?
