What is there to do when we are not skiing?

You're not planning on staying in Denver and skiing, are you? it's a pretty long haul to day trip to the ski areas.

In Denver, there's shopping: Cherry Creek, Park Meadows, and Crossroads malls, all in suburbs, and the Tabor Center and 16th Street Mall in downtown.

Museums: Science and Nature, Denver Art Museum, Butterfly Pavillion, Museum of Contemporary Art, just to mention a few of the larger ones.

There's the State Capitol building and the Mint, Theater and Dance, clubs, food (someone mentioned the cuisine...all sorts - in some cases you can find neighborhoods, like Greek, Thai, and Vietnamese, tend to be clustered in neighborhoods, but there's a WIDE variety of different foods).

I usually wind up in Denver to hit shopping that I can't do in the mountains, and to visit friends (and we go out to eat...so...I kinda know about food).

If you're coming here to ski, I'd definitely consider going straight to the resort towns, and staying there. You really don't want to spend two to three hours (each way) driving to the resorts, then dealing with parking, and possibly rentals? And we have really good restaurants in the ski towns, too. (though the shopping/museum thing is a whole different animal).

If you decide to visit Leadville, take your skis, go to Cooper Ski Area. It's where the 10th Mountain Division trained for winter war. It's a great ski area, with a small hometown feel and it's a historic spot too. It's on the way from Copper Mountain to Leadville, about 30 miles.

On to Denver, 16th Street Mall is fun. Then there are all the museums, right now you might be able to catch an Avalanche Game at the Pepsi Center.

Where are you going to ski? Are you flying or driving?
Would you be interested in taking a passenger, who will help with gas, if you are driving. I am from Denver and need to go back to pick up my stuff.
There is no limit to the shopping opportunities, there are several really good museums and art galleries, hot springs, nightclubs, concerts, the Mint, Gondola tours, train tours, and depending on where you are going to stay-Estes Park is a must see.
