Hi,

As has happened throughout history:

1) A technically superior force far ahead in technology overcoming a more stagnant group of hunter gatherers in some parts of the American continent.

2) The native Indians were divided amongst themselves, had their own wars and issues and left the situation ripe for the plucking from the encroaching Europeans.

3) In some cases, European disease to which the American indigenous people had no immunity.

To answer your question succinctly, I think either technology or disease (or both if, you can choose two) was the biggest factor in the rise of the colonists and the fall of the natives. Just as if alien invaders with ray-guns, flying saucers and super-germs invaded any industrialized nation today, we'd be toast faster than the Indians.

Not defending Whitey, here, but let's remember, the colonists were human first, European second. If the Chinese had had a smaller ocean to cross they might have done similar things to the Indians on the other coast -- and they would have had all the influenzas of the Orient to help decimate the population, not to mention being the birthplace of the Plague. Plenty of Indian cultures had already collapsed on the continent because of poor land management--a blight not isolated to Europeans. They weren't all hunter-gatherers. Basically, and culture (Christian European, Muslim Arab, Animist Indian, etc) tends to dehumanize any other culture that's alien or adversarial enough, and that mindset gives them the illusion of having the moral freedom to do whatever they want to them. The technology gap fed into this because colonists could look at the technical and military knowledge they'd inherited from millennia of Eurasian/African knowledge exchange and pretend like they'd invented all their technology themselves, and thusly the Natives were backward savages for not having done the same. If the tables were turned it'd still be humans on both sides, equally selfish, self-righteous, greedy, and noble.

When Europeans came, too many of them were corrput and greedy. Technology gave the Europeans the ability to kill a lot of the Indians, but greed was the motive.

I've talked to Indians (including my ex-boyfriend) who have told me all about stuff that white poeple did that isn't in the history books because it's too graphic, violent, and cruel. White people didn't just take land from the Indians, they killed the Indians for their land. When they built the railroads, white poeple would bring guns and shoot the buffalo from the moving trains, just to starve the Indians. So-called "Christian" missionaries beat the Indians within inches of their lives to get them to convert (which is NOT what Jesus would want). The government intentionally sent blankets infested with smallpox to the Indians to kill them. The governemt offered cash rewards to anyone who killed an Indian. The government basically attempted to commit genocide. The few that survived were forced onto reservations, where a lot of people starved and died of diseases. The government sent them rationed food filled with bugs, and didn't allow them to hunt or practice their culture in any way. The government took away children from their parents and put them in boarding schools where they were taught to live like white people. The government took away all their rights until the 20th century, and Indians today still don't have equal rights, even though they have more rights than they used to. This isn't half of what white people have done to the Indians, just some examples. The treatment of the Indians is by far, the worst thing out government has ever done.

I suggest you read a book titled: "1491"

The native Americans practised ecology management in a big way. When the white man came, and decimated the indigenous population with new diseases, they found a bountiful land just waiting. The European concept of land ownership was a major factor. The white man bought or stole the land and evicted the native americans from the land repeatedly in a shameless fashion. Look where "reservations" are today; generally in the most desolate areas of the country.

I don't know where to begin with this. I suppose addressing the idea that adult cartoons are indicative of how a society functions. They are not. Putting too much stock in TV is a bad idea. Family Guy in particular specializes in being in really bad taste. That is their thing. They slam everybody & everything they can think of in the most insulting ways possible. The Simpsons tend to have a little bit more heart to their stories, but still if you cannot see that a household with an unrepentant alcoholic father is nothing to aspire to...well..... To a certain extent, I like to think these shows do certain things to lampoon the way things are now....but other moments I think they're whacked....but whatever, take what you want from the shows or don't watch them. But, I'm Canadian, I can't speak to or of American culture. What I can say is that in the Canadian city I live in, anti-Native, anti-Aboriginal, or anti-First Nations (whichever term you want to use) is not only alive & well, it is the only generally accepted form of prejudice I've ever seen in my entire life. Our police service is well known for it & their shoot, taze, & beat first find out identity of Native person later (questions? yeah right) policy. It's pretty disgusting & everybody acts like it's nothing.... PS: oh yeah, you wanna drop that "red Indian" terminology going forward, it's not cool man.

The farming economy of the European Americans took over the hunter-gatherer and subsistence farming economy of the Native Americans. This destroyed their way of life and left them unable to sustain their culture in the land that was once theirs. The agricultural economy of the European Americans developed into an industrial economy and bureaucratic government that succeeded, excluding groups with simple technology.

indirectly the chinese as they invented the gun which the americans used to wipe the red indians just imagine an army of 15000 agaisnt of 2000 which will win 15000 certainly but only if they use the same weapons or not so different ones but if the 2000 wre even 200 but with guns they will win look at this example in the latin americas when the spanish met the incan emperor they tried to convert him into christianity but when he threw the bible on the ground they took him hostage but when his 300000 soilders attacked the spanish to save their emperor 20000 or so of them wre killed in less than half an hour and no spanish soilder was killed the greatest and worst historical victory in the world

The Europeans who came to America outnumbered and outgunned the Native Americans. That's really all there is to it - nothing complicated.
