...I had surgery and was instructed to take high dose prescription ibuprofen but now I can't sleep without it. I wake up in the middle of the night and think I'm in a lot of pain. Maybe I AM in a lot of pain? The surgery was very minor and it has been almost a month.

Ibuprofen is addictive, my doctor says so. But it takes a lot longer than a month to develop an addiction to it, more like years. I wouldn't worry about it in your situation, and taking it after surgery is not going to destroy your liver, for instance acetaminophen is much more toxic to the liver than ibuprofen. If your surgery still hurts thats another issue that has nothing to do with your prescribed pain reliever.

Anything that is mood altering can be addictive. Ibuprofen isn't usually addictive, but you can build a tolerance to it, meaning you need more to get the same effect. Its also possible to take too much and cause kidney and liver problems.

you can develop an emotional dependance on any pill, but ibuprofen has no physical properties to cause addiction, which is a physical phenomena. If you are having pain a month after a minor surgery, then you should see a doctor.

You need to get off of that, it is horrible for the liver.... which means it's horrible for pretty much every system in your body.
