I have asked this question before, and noone has given me an answer. Last Sunday, Oakland got beat by Jacksonville 49 to 11 and Green Bay lost to Chicago 35 to 7. The week before, Atlanta lost to Tampa Bay 37 to 3 and San Diego crushed Detroit 51 to 14. BUT, not a word was said that any of those teams were running up the score.

It's because people are looking for everything and anything to peg the Patriots with. People were all mad when they beat the Redskins 52-7 and whined "How dare Belichick do that to Joe Gibbs, he would never do that to anyone." That is such a crock... because Gibbs did the same thing to the LA Rams back in the 80's by beating them 52-10. That's one thing I can't stand about people that hate on the Patriots... most of them go running their mouthes without even knowing about NFL history. And the funny thing is... everyone was like Belichick is gonna run the score up on the Jets and he didn't and instead of accepting they were wrong they just talk about how the Patriots aren't as good as everyone says they are. And then about how everyone said Belichick wasn't gonna shake Mangini's hand... but Belichick walked right up to him with a smile on his face and genuinely said "Great game... awesome game Eric." And patted him on the back. Do the people that hate on Belichick mention that... no, they just ignore it like it never happened. Thing is.. .as long as the Patriots are winning... people will ignore the good and concentrate on the bad. GO PATS!

I hate the Patriots however the ideal thank you to maintain the opposing team from working up the score is play some protection. The Chiefs have a super protection yet every time protection have been given a turnover, Campbell gave it ideal lower back. That develop right into a sparkling case of one guy dropping a pastime. the main comprehensive team they're going to play this 300 and sixty 5 days occurs to be the Colts. it is perplexing to accuse any team of enjoying a gentle schedule in the NFL, however the opposition to the Patriots have been below stellar. we will see what occurs this weekend.

Among the cases you mentioned

Chicago's 2 last TD were defensive.

Jacksonville scored the last 3 TD with the 2nd or 3rd stringers; e.g Quinn Gray, Greg Jones .

Tampa Bay took out Graham and put Pittman and Bennett in the 2nd half.

San Diego took out LT and Rivers and "run up the score" with Volek and Darren Sproles.

None of them went for it on 4th down despite winning 45-7 with 4 minutes left, only so Brady and Moss chase records. Against Miami, Bellichick didn't put Matt Gutierrez until the 2 minute warning to kneel 3 times.

True other teams have so called "run up the score" but like i've said in another post, since when is there a Mercy rules in Football, and since when do NFL coaches need to be nice to the media and answer every question. Its the Job of the offense to score points and it the job of the defense to prevent that. there is no oh lets take it easy rule in sports. The media and the fans are the ones causing all this to sound like its a rule. and s for the coaches, I highly doubt on their job application there is a place where you have to sign your name after reading I will agree to be nice to the media after and before games.

I am sure teams from the 70's to future season will be up 20 points and go for it with their starters on 4th and 2, under 2 min to play. Its human nature.

There seems to be a different standard for the Patriots, I haven't figured out why.
As for the "running up the score", that is ridiculous, all of those teams, the Patriots included are just doing what they are being paid to do. There is no such thing as "running up the score" in professional sports. These guys are being paid millions to score as much as they can, not to give up when they have scored "enough". Also to those saying the Pats haven't taken out there starters in the 4th, you obviously aren't actually watching the game. In the games that they have been accused of running up the score they have taken out Brady and Cassel was still able to score.

The jealousy and ignorance on this board is amazing. this is Professional football. If you don't like getting scored on, then stop them!

what did the 72 dolphins beat the Pats by? 51-0?
what did the 85 bears win by in the SB? 46-10?

were they running it up? No. They did it because they COULD.

I think many of the whiners and haters are still stuck at the Pee Wee football level.

Because people have to complain about something. The Patriots are accused of running up the score by those who cant stop their offense and by the fans of every team they beat. The object of the game isnt to please the loser. This criticsm was absent when the Colts/Rams/Cowboys and other offensive powerhouses in the last 15 years were pounding their opponents. The Patriots seems to only want to beat their opponents more as the whining increases.

I wonder the same thing myself...Seems that the Colts have blown out a lot of people, but they don't get mentioned like the Pats for running up the score...

...and the Pats have put in backups in the 4th quarter when the game was already won...Sometimes the backups have scored too...Thats not the Pats fault...

For the Jacksonville game, they had their starters out of the game at the beginning of the 4th quarter. The Pats not only kept their starters in but were going for 4th down conversions. Can't comment on the other games...

the small things... like you kno:

Keeping the starters in 4 quarters when winning by 25+

Sticking with a passing game instead of runnung the clock in the 4th when winning.

or

Going for it on 4th and 7 when they are up by 20+ in the fourth quarter.

and doing these things in nearly every game. Why? because they CAN
