"By all accounts, Vice President Dick Cheney has been a major force in pushing the theory that Iraq’s supposed nuclear weapons program and connection to Al Qaeda was the basis for the U.S. invasion. As early as June of 2002, Cheney claimed to have evidence that Iraq had nuclear weapons, and leading up to the war he said the U.S. had evidence of a close cooperative connection between Saddam Hussein and Osama bin Laden. At the same time, he claimed that the Iraq war had nothing to do with enriching his former employer, Halliburton. Believe it…or not:"

Although that doesn't really link to 9/11, according to the FBI there is no evidence linking Osama or al-qaeda to 9/11.
But Cheney did slander Iraq re: 9/11 and was later caught denying he ever did.

Yep.

After the final report from the 9/11 commission and from all other investigators Cheney held to the link. He either had info that he withheld from all other branches of gov't, or he flat out lied.
___

This was from Dick Cheney: If we're successful in Iraq.we will have struck a major blow right at the heart of the base, if you will, the geographic base of the terrorists who have had us under assault now for many years, but most especially on 9/11." [NBC's Meet the Press, 9/14/03]
__

Edit: I used to have links to the articles about Cheney insisting on the connection even after the final reports. There were articles on FoxNews, CNN, and others. Unfortunately someone apparently went through here and got rid of all the questions associated with that, and I hadnt bothered to save the links elsewhere yet.

He has claimed as has most of the Bush administration on many occasions that Saddam Hussein and Al Quaedae were responsible for 9/11. It's never been true. Same way the Bush administration says that "Canadians" are responsible for letting terrorists across the border even though our embassadors have corrected them numerous times. Another Bush administration lie.

It is of course one of many of the "big " lies the Bush administrations told the American people about the reason for going into Iraq in 03.

therein lies the problem ... wicowell2 , Bush and Cheney have nothing but leaps of thinking......nothing concrete or factual and that is WHY WE ENDED UP IN THE IRAQ WAR! Cheney and Bush has been manipulating the code word 9l1 for political gain, scaring the soccer Moms in suburbia to get Bush elected for the his second term. They use 911 to spy on innocent Americans ...this leap of thinking (leap of nothing really) to justify all sorts of ventures. That why this country is a total messed up today.

Cheney linked Saddam and 9/11 a zillion million times. On television, in print, in interviews.

And recently, oh, say -- seven or eight months ago, bush made the statement that Saddam and 9/11 were NOT connected, and the Rightwingnuts have been backpedaling ever since.

Very tricky thing, that "recorded data" thing.

yes, frequently, including the cockamamie story of a meeting in Prague between the agent of Saddam and the planners of 9/11 (proven to be triple distilled, five star BS)
WUDBISER, You KNEW the weapons were there ? where exactly were they hidden and how?. Why didn't you call the NSA and tell them ? Do you know why Colin Powel resigned as Secretary of State ? He was lied to about the WMDs being in Iraq... DDUHHHH... what about the lives of 4,000 of our bravest. Please enlighten me as to why they died...
Why don't YOU volunteer to serve in Iraq ?

you're yet to discover the lies of your own gov't.......some of the biggest lies ever are right now said about Iran......beofre that it was about Iraq........I'm afraid in the end you'll reach to the conclusion that 9/11 was an inside job no matter what nationality the terrorist in those plains had.the evil is in your own country...If you're gonne fight anyone, overthrow the U.S gov't which is obviously a terrorist bully in today's world.Don't get me wronf. The word terrorist means someone who terrorizes, that's what the U.S is constantly doing to other nations and to your people too by telling you that other's are dangerous and instill fear in you. They terrorize both American people and the people of the world and just spew lies and hatred.

It was not a leap to think that Saddam, at minimum, indirectly helped the terrorist that attacked us. He allowed there training camps in his country. He at times supplied them with money.

He had Idi Amin, one of the most brutal mass murders in history living comfortably in a Baghdad apartment.

Why is it so hard to conceive that he didn't help?

Yes, but he didn't come straightforward with it, he just told a bunch of satellite lies to make it seem that way.
