If you are in Las Vegas, all the casinos offer poker tournaments on specific days and times. The cost of these tournaments ranges from as little as a $35 buy-in to over $100 buy-in. Obviously, the higher the buy-in, the more money you will win if you get 1st through 3rd place. There are also a number of gambling websites where you can enter a "cash" tournament. With the online websites, you provide them with a credit card number and they will charge your card when you enter a cash game. The buy-in on these tournaments is going to depend on what gambling website you go to such as: partypoker.net and pokerstars.com.

The tournaments you see on TV are professional tournaments and those costs a minimum of $10,000.

The ones on t.v can range depending on what you are watching on there. The w.s.o.p has events all the way from 50k all the way down to 1500.00 dollars. The world poker tour has the main event all the way from 25k to 5k, but most major main events that are on t.v will cost you 10 grand to get into. But just buying in is just 1 way to do it. You can play satellites to win your seat, at evey big event they have these events, to let other players who don't have the 10 grand to play into the event for cheep. For example they may have a super satellite where the buy-in is 200 dollars, and 100 people enter. so the prize pool is 20k . So that means there will be 2 seats to win for the main event. So paying 200 to win a seat into a 10k event is the best way to go.
