In North America, we have the Red-bellied Woodpecker and the Red-headed Woodpecker but no Red Woodpecker. Both carve their own nests usually in the trunk of a large deciduous tree from 6 feet to 25 feet above the ground. No additional material is added to the cavity.

Just look on-line for woodpecker nesting boxes to see what they look like. They are cavity nesters.
