Hey. You look like me. :)

Honestly you need to go to a hearing specialist with those questions. Unless of course there happen to be a couple of hearing specialists here.

All the best.

I think what you are talking about is a decreased sensitivity to various frequency's. If you can hear without the aids, I would suggest leaving them out. I presume you have been checked for earwax? that can certainly block sounds. Can you get those foam earplugs people wear in loud noise situations? Some time with your friends put them in , and see if you can still hear. (It forces the brain to concentrate on less noise input) Anything that hampers communication is a disability. What kind of a lisp? Can you get a hold of a reed instrument? Saxophone? learn to play that, it will help strengthen and co-ordinate the mouth muscles.

Your audiologist is probably a better person to answer these questions, especially the one about whether or not it will get worse.

Educationally speaking (I don't know if you're in school or not), if you qualify for modifications/accommodations or special programming through an IEP, that technically means that you have a disability. In Wisconsin it would be HI, Hearing Impaired.

However, that is just a label the state must give - it doesn't define you as a person. But if you are in school and you're asking these questions, please get them answered by someone who knows your situation better. It is important for you to be involved and knowledgeable in your educational process.

Good Luck :)

Most deafness gets worse as you get older, but maybe not until you are about 40.
