All I remember is that she was in an ER in California (I think), and that the ER nurse wouldn't see her. She died in the waiting room in a wheelchair after a cop arrested her for an outstanding warrant. When they did an autopsy, the woman had a perforated colon. Does anyone know if the family is suing the hospital, or if the hospital has even been shut down?

That was in Los Angeles at Martin Luther King Jr. Hospital in South Central. This hospital is notorious for poor quality. The reasons for it could, and have been, discussed for years.
The hospital has been shut down since then due to failing to meet minimum standards.
I never found out how she happened to get a perforated bowel.... Was she stabbed, or what?
I'll wager that Edith Isabel Rodriguez is not the only patient to die unnecessarily at King Harbor Hospital.
Her particular situation happened when she was brought in to the ER with a perforated colon, she was lying on the floor bleeding, the staff would not help, her husband and a bystander both called 911 asking for an ambulance to take her somewhere else, the police finally came, they realized she was in violation of her parole, they tried to arrest her [to be fair, there are medical facilities at the jail and they probably hoped to get her help there] but she was too sick and they took her back into the ER and she died. Her family sued the County about it.
The hospital is still providing some outpatient care, and hopes to reopen someday. If so, the question remains whether it will ever be a decent hospital.

You're referring to Ms.Rodriguez who painfully died in an ER lobby of a hospital because no one cared to help her as she bleeded to death on canera and as a janitor sweeped around her like a do...well her family, her 3 20-something daughters have already filed a HUGE multi MILLION suit AGAINST the hospital, the 911 emergency system (who claimed it wasn't an emergency when others called on their cell/payphones),the police dept. that handcuffed her as she was dying AND the COUNTY more than 1 lawyer including a FAMOUS one has taken on the case on behalf of the Rodriquez's family and will soon go to trial...
the case is FAR from lost and forgotten.
