I bought it a couple weeks ago, but I was outdoors with it for about an hour in really low temperatures. It seemed fine when I got it home and the leaves lasted about a week then they all started drying up and falling off. I'm not bad with plants normally I actually have quite a green thumb with tropical plants ( which are all doing really well). I'm just not sure if something's happened to the plant or if it's just responding to the cold. I'm new to bonsai so could someone help me?

Reynwhte.... is absolutely right, lilac is an outdoor deciduous tree that will lose it's leaves in the fall/winter. Keep in mind that it is an OUTDOOR tree, and it will die in about 6 months if you keep it inside. You're welcome to email me at:
wchoat@american-bonsai.com and I'll send you complete care instructions for the lilac. You may also want to look at the Bonsai Care page on my site:

Both Dogwood and Lilac are deciduous. They loose their leaves in winter.

Well, Trini, you're going to have to tell us what species of plant you have. Bonsai is a style, not a species.
