The 944 is better looking. Unless I am incorrect the 928 is faster. I hope your job pays well. Between repairs and insurance it will have to.

The reality of either car is not good givent he situation you describe. But first to the actual questions... you don't mention which 928S or 944 Turbo; both of these cars were produced in many versions, some more desirable and better performing than others.
If you were to look at the best of the 928S and the best of the 951 (probably the last 944 Turbo S), you'd find two cars that offer a lot of performance, with the 944 offering a better balanced chasis, but the 928 having the advantage of more cubic inches. Though, being a turbo, and one of the form factors which the factory raced, the 951 (944 Turbo) has many more upgrade options.
Both cars are alot of fun to drive... the 944 cars are probably a little more sporting with the 928 being a little more luxurious. As to which girls would prefer, that will depend on the girl (and is not really a good criteria to decide on a major automotive purchase anyway).
The real problem here is the budget! A good example of either of the cars you mention will run more than $6k... and anything less than a good example will cost you alot (and I do mean ALOT) more in the long run. While these cars have come down to some very cheap prices, parts and service will reflect the fact that they were very expensive when new. Porsches are very reliable cars, as long as they are properly cared for... buying one in questionable condition is a sure fire recipe for spending lots of money (you could quickly top that $6k figure in repairs if there are major problems).
Then there is the issue that these are cars capable of high performance, and not ones ideally suited for an inexperienced driver. While they both have much less "bite" than similar era 911s, they are cars that can easily lull an inexperienced driver quickly past their limits... and if this happens in a controlled setting (like an autocross or even a race track), then it's merely a case of having a chance to learn; but elsewhere just means that the best case outcome will be damage to the car (and this comes back to the budget point).
If you are set on looking at a Porsche as a first car, you would be better served looking towards a normally asperated 944 or a 924S. Both cars are fun to drive, but will be more forgiving to an inexperienced driver. And given your budget, you should be able to pick a well maintained car that is in great condition (and have a good chunk left over for the bank).

The LEAST expensive thing you may do will be actually be buying the car...
Unless you have very deep pockets, you might want to reconsider what your getting into. Part's on cars which very few were made tend to be very expensive, and Porsches have never been made in mass quanitities.
A smart move may to be able to find a 1986-87 924S(944 mechanicals with a 924 shell). They are simple, easy to repair, and not too expensive to fix/maintain, and make an excellent first Porsche. The Turbo version 944 and 928 are both very expensive to maintain and repair.
As far as the girls are, you want one to hand with you because your a good guy...not because you own a Porsche. She'll love you even if you ride the bus if you got the right stuff.

I own a 928 S and had a 951 (944 Turbo), they are both great cars but I'd choose the 928. It's just more car...more power, more luxurious, more options, more resale value. The 951 is a TINY bit faster from 0-60, but the 928 S hit 171mph on the salt flats in the mid 80's, making it the fastest sports car in the World for a little bit. The V8 will also last forever if maintained properly. However, if you don't have deep pockets, the 951 is cheaper to maintain. The girls you're after weren't even alive when these cars were on the road, so tell them Tom Cruise drove the 928 in Risky Business and you'll do fine :)

Both are a bad choice for a first car. They are far too fast, and far too expensive to fix. Clutch jobs on a 928 are like 2500 bucks, a rear hatch on a 944turbo is like 2k, and other parts are just horridly expensive.
Im only 20, and am a porsche club of america racecar driver, and Im even suggesting not doing it. Theyre just too expensive to fix, even with a job. Remember, when 928s came out, they were the most expensive porsche made, meaning theyre the most expensive to fix.
A good choice would be something like an older BMW 328i. Theyre great fun to drive, very reliable, and can turn into awesome, affordable track cars with a bit of suspension work.

the two are old layout of older autos. The 928S grow to be resulted in 1997. The 944 rapid had an outstanding previously death in 1991. the two have been plagued with issues regardless of their popularity. The 944 front force and rear transmission layout resulted in grasp and force line issues for the existence of the production run. The 928 experienced many gas injection and electric powered issues. although if if i grow to be to come to a decision on which a sort of dinosaurs i could resurrect it may be the 928S. there's no longer something like the rumble of a V8.

If you bash Porsches, then you can't afford them. If you bash liquid cool Porsche, then you're an air head aircool 911 idiot.
