MPEG-2 defines a family of codecs for audio and video.
The DVD format uses the Main level at Main profile MPEG-2 codec for video, but Dolby Digital for audio.
DVDs also have auxiliarry streams for closed captioning and special Index files for navigation. All this side information plus the audio and video streams, in a DVD, are encapsulated in a number of VOB files.

MPEG 2 is a compression format through which your file can be played. Every compression formats have different advantages and disadvantages.

I didn't understand what's dvd ???
