ok i kno wnothing when it comes to computers but any way i need to use some drafting programs on my computer but anytime i make i file thats kind of big my computer gets all slow. will an external har drive help me or what can i do short of buying a whole new computer

It's not your hard drive as much as your RAM memory and prob your video card.

Max your memory out and install a good video card.

Drawing programs are notoriously intensive on resources. First make sure that you have as much RAM as possible. An external hard drive will only help if your existing drive is full. It will not increase the speed of your drawing program. If you are considering a new computer, go for a dual core processor and 256 MB graphics card as a minimum.

I would guess that could happen if your main drive is getting low in disk space, an external HD might help. You might to free some of the diskspace by moving to external HD, run Defrag

External Hard Drives are very convenient when you need more space. I'd get one.
