drink cocoa instead, but if you're using it to wake up take energy pills or drink an energy drink.

Try yerba mate tea -- it's got some kick to it so replaces the feeling of coffee. Coffee's not poison until after 2-3 cups.

My husband used to be the same way. He'd drink pots of coffee every day. He started having chest pains and the ER doc told him to drastically cut his coffee intake and switch to decaf. Now he'll drink a couple of cups of decaf instead for taste and psychological addiction. He drinks way more water or tea now than he ever did before.

We helped my future son-in-law give up his coffee/caffiene addiction. Though it is a rather personal thing, there are some things to note that will help you eliminate it successfully.
First, the addiction is usually tied to certain times or actions. With my son-in-law, he was brainwashed into believing that he couldn't start his day successfully without a cup of coffee. This was easy to prove wrong, and addressed first by a simple no cup of coffee when you get up. Instead drink an appropriate morning drink, such as 100% juice and have a hearty breakfast with protein to fuel you. Most of the time the coffee start is accompanied by an insignificant food fueling at best.
Second we addressed the habitual addiction. When he had a cup of coffee or craved a cup of coffee it was related directly to another action - for him smoking (which he was also trying to give up). So, we said, have neither and you will crave neither. It worked. For others it may be some other impetus, like the morning "coffee" break and snack. Don't take that break or eat that snack and you bypass your programming to reach for a cup of coffee.
Third was the stress factor. Caffeine does interact with stress in such a way as to make the addicted person think it is an irreplaceable aid. If this is so for you, then you need to be conscious about when and why you are stressed. Then, deal with the stress in a more appropriate manner for the situation. For instance, when my son-in-law would get mad at coworkers it was a double whammy - caffeine and cigarette needed to deal with it! Well, we taught him to call us instead and talk it out. Maybe in stressful situations, there is someone you can talk it out with instead of reaching for coffee.
Substitutions:
He loved his coffee and soda, it was his main drink. He hated tea unless it was iced (nasty). We taught him the fine art of hot tea drinking, the importance of honey for the immune system, and the flavors and wonders of steeping appropriately. Hot tea has now become his drink of choice. He chooses healthy teas and loves to entertain with this drink he didn't know he liked. Some great flavors to start with are chamomile, ginger, mullein, peppermint, lemon thyme and the list goes on. All of these also have great healing and restorative properties. But, the tea lecture is for another answer. It covers the desire for a hot drink and flavor without feeding the coffee addiction.
Water is always an appropriate substitution for any drink! Most of us don't get enough water daily, and that can mess with your psyche also. When you are tempted to grab a cup of jo, try grabbing 8oz of water and drinking it down instead.
Keep your mouth busy with a flavor that doesn't interact well with coffee for you. What do you just not like to have combined with coffee? Well, that is as random as a persons voice. But, you will know what it is. If it comes in chewing gum, great! If it is toothpaste, brush your teeth when you are tempted to have coffee, etc.
Remove coffee and coffee makers from your home, and office environment, if possible. My s-i-l actually wanted to set a coffee maker up on my counter for himself. I said "why," and he didn't. When we have guests we don't think about coffee as being an appropriate entertaining tool. Instead, we offer water, tea or a mineral water drink (mineral water combined with a combination of 100% fruit juices).
Hot chocolate. Yes, hot chocolate is a wonderful drink. If you buy the right cocoa (we get ours from Frontier Cooperatives) you can find non-alkali processed, high iron and high fiber cocoa that will do wonders for your health. Mix 1 tsp of cocoa with 2-3 tsp of turbinado and then add milk, and you have a wonderful, healthy drink. You can also skip the turbinado and use Stevia (a plant derivative) to sweeten. It is highly sweet though, we use 1 drop to 1 cup of tea.
Hopefully that gets you started on breaking the caffeine addiction. I feel very strongly about the need to get people off the physiological and psychological addiction to coffee and caffeine for many reasons, the main one being that coffee addiction is what killed my father - through a form of coffee induced cancer.
Best health to you.

I finally switched to green tea, a lot less caffeine, and has antioxidant properties, tastes great too. If your afraid to do it all at once, just try it every other day, until you get use to it and like it.
Good Luck!

As funny as this may sound, the toxins have probably built up in your body. Flush them out with a colon cleanse supplement. You will lose the cravings and feel better overall. Do some research on this!

Coffee is not poison. You are not "addicted".
And Starbucks does not contain chemicals to make you addicted. (How utterly stupid is that!!)
If you want to stop, just stop. You may get a headache for a couple of days from the caffeine withdrawal, but it will pass.

Do not drink Starbucks Coffee, it contains chemicals to make you addicted. If you drink coffee drink Certified Organic coffee that is from a non publicly traded company. The sole resposibility of publicly traded companies is to increase profits to their shareholders at "all" costs. How do they do this they add chemicals to their products to make you addicted. Voila, more profit! non-publicly traded companies have one goal to make a quality product but not at the expense of others. Pharmaceutical companies are the same way. Visit my page here for all organically certified cosmetics, health, household products. We all need Probiotics to replace bad bacteria with good bacteria is something everyone needs, that is why people get sick. Anti-biotics, Chlorine from Tap Water, showers, washing of hands, and many other factors contribute to killing of good bacteria in our intestinal tract. hope that helps!
