Pretty much any place in the NorthEast will be cold in the winter! So yes, start with DC and work South...
In PA, look at Swarthmore, Villanova, and Haverford (all within 15 min of each other--in a consortium).
In DC, Georgetown is very pretty.
In VA, look at College of William & Mary (so beautiful) and U Richmond.
In North Carolina, look at Davidson (also incredibly beautiful), Wake Forest, and UNC Chapel Hill. These are some of the most beautiful campuses in the country.
Schools further North really are some of the most beautiful campuses (if you can stand the cold weather...which is really not too bad.) If you would consider that, look at Colgate, Hamilton, Skidmore, Sarah Lawrence (all NY); Williams, Mount Holyoke (if you're a girl), Harvard, and Wellesley (all MA)

Brevard College in NC. It is about 30 minutes from Asheville and Hendersonville, NC. It is also about an hour and a half to from Greenville, SC.
Most of the campuses in NC, SC, and GA are pretty.

If you don't want to go too far south, the College of William and Mary is pretty. Personally, I like the University of Florida's campus.
