Its quicker but can get very messy. Just make sure you cover everything and tape what you dont want painted...

It takes quite a bit of experience and skill to use a spray rig without getting the overspray on things you don't want it on like the roof and the windows etc.
I would rent the machine and here are a few tips
# 1 airless sprayguns have tips labled w/ a # ......515,415,211 etc
the first # is the width of the spray fan 5= 10 inch fan,4=8inch etc.......the second two digit # is the size of the hole in the tip the bigger the# the more paint comes out.......... the rental co ,home depot etc will give you a 515 which puts out alot of paint and can be hard to control
#2 you will need lots of drop cloths the overspray wiil fall on anything around plastic is ok except on plants sun will burn plants that are touching the plastic
#3 get a sprayshield and learn how to use it
if you find this the least bit overwhelming HIRE A painter

don't purchase one unless you plan on doing a lot of painting. Go to a professional paint store and rent a sprayer, usually around $50-$60 per day. They will ask for a deposit to cover cleaning the machine should you bring it back dirty.

Sprayers are good for getting the paint on the wall, but I suggest you back roll it with the proper napped roller to ensure even coverage and eliminate any holidays (drips) or overlap marks made by the sprayer.

Without reading beyond # 3 I agree. RENT.

After appling multiple thousands of gallons of paint, my SPRAYER of chice is an airless. Often 50 ft sections of hose and a siphon tube into a 5 gallon bucket.

Unless you intend a lot more use after the fact, Buying one is a useless expense. I RENT for every job, at a Local, supplier, and as a capital expense, I own one, but that's just a personal choice.

If you want a paint sprayer my only advise is do not get a cheap one.........I have owned 3 cheap versions and all 3 got paint all over me - I kept buying and taking them back - After the third try I gave up and hired a painter.

I agree with Hunbbblech above except I suggest that you not rent a handheld sprayer.

Before you start to paint, be sure that it is not too windy, have your neighbors move their cars or use dropcloths to partician off other property if they are close by.

Most importantly, wear a resperator and cover your self completely from head to toe, especially your eyes
