No cause the new tests are pretty good so they are just gonna go by those results. I would think they would want 1 just for their sake but o well.. ...Congradulations!

More than likely if you get a positive it's correct. The chances of getting a false positive are slim, but possible. If the doctor won't test again, then you could test again at home just for peace of mind. It's very normal to be unsure of things. With my first, I got a very very faint positive and it was way after the ten minutes it should have been. So I thought it wasn't positive, so I tested again and the second time got a much darker pink line, so it was positive. Best wishes and congrats!

No, there can be false positives but they are extremely rare. My doctor did not do another test either only because by the time you go in for your first appointment (usually6-8 weeks) you can see either the hear beat or at least the egg sac on an internal sonogram. Good Luck and Congrats!

False positives are VERY rare.
If you want to take another test for your own peace of mind, go for it!
I took a few when I found out I was pregnant - because I wanted to be completely sure!! LOL
Congratulations!

There isn't a false positive because the test cannot detect something that isn't there (unless you just had a miscarriage recently which I doubt that you have if you say you have never been pregnant before). When you go to the doctor to get it verified, they just do another home test anyways. Congratulations and best of luck to you.

Hahaha...no it's REALLY rare to get a false positive since there are looking for pregnancy hormones (HCG) and if you're not pregnant you don't have them in your system at all. Sorry about the giggle but it's funny because my hubby was hoping the same thing.
Welcome to pregnancy hun...the world of the hormone rollercoaster. :P If you're interested in learning more about what's happening with you and your baby there are a number of really good websites out there that will break it down week by week for you...and give it to you in terms that are easy to understand.

The only way to get a false positive is if you had a miscarriage recently. The test detects a hormone in your urine that is present in pregnant women, so it wouldn't be there if you weren't pregnant.
Most doctors still test to see it for themselves if you take a hpt. If you want a test, ask him, I am sure that he would give you one to ease your mind.

Many doctors say that a home kit is almost as acurate as an ultrasound. If it reads positive, you can take another test, but darling odds are its going to be the same. Enjoy and congrats :)

False positives are VERY rare, and your doctor must be confident that you are in fact pregnant - but you should be able to insist on a blood test if you want to be extra sure. Congrats!

INCREDIBLY rare. Congratulations!
You do have the right to ask the doctor for a blood test. In fact, at your first prenatal visit, they usually do a complete blood work-up, which includes a blood pregnancy test.
