When Iraq becomes a non-issue, which it nearly is already, the Democrats will lose the general election - because that was the main vote pandering platform they had.

Oh that is the republicans most high wish........
But for the people that can think for themselves, and have a smattering of free thought. It is an issue, and will be an issue, maybe not the issue, but it is important.
I ask for only one, just one, the MAJOR reason cited by this administration for the war was that of WMD's (weapons of mass destruction), so far there have not be any valid reports of any WMD's, so somebody lied. Wonder what the REAL reason was.
I am an independent, was a republican, but am so tired of the B******t that is spewing forth that i am now an independent, and the ranks are swelling!
The hopeful talk of those trying to supplant the idea that the war is a non-issue and that the domestic issues are more important, are attempting to ignore those brave people that have served and are serving in that area. They are wanting the American people to forget that many of them have died there for "Bush's revenge war". and that many many more will come home physically and mentally disabled, and will be ignored by this "Bush Administration" and the entire republican party, especially those attempting to make the war a "non-issue".

Be sure the GOP will remind Americans just how supportive the Democratic Congress has been of our brave soldiers. Remind American's of campaign promises never met. More success and the better things go in Iraq the more damage to the DNC. They can not continue to blame Bush for something that actually is working. I expect them to start taking credit for it next. As in holding out on bills to force Bush into vetoes making him look bad. Because they can try the spin we forced the changes and made it so... etc etc. Anything but the truth. Pelosi & Reid are famous for this.
The GOP is doing well despite some poor selections.

That is what is being tried by President Bush. That is what was promised to the Republican candidates. That is also why they keep their cool and indicate, if any, support for Bush.
A modest democratic nominee may not know or wish to exploit the scenario. But a vociferous nominee can derive maximum mileage that it was his crying hoarse that has made it possible to obtain peace in Iraq and withdrawal of forces. Campaigning is all about using both edges of the knife with equal facility.

Iraq will remain an important issue because we are diverting a lot of human and financial resources to it. We can't address the other problems we have until we get our troops home and stop wasting hundreds of billions of dollars each year on that wretched part of the world.
Check out MHP Wizo's post below. I don't think anyone could have said it better.

Don't know how anyone believes Iraq to be a "non-issue". I'm betting military families don't think it is. And if the rest of us treat it that way then we should be ashamed of ourselves.
How can the deaths and maimings of thousands of our service people and tens to maybe hundreds of thousands of Iraqi's be a "non-issue"?

That is not possible. The burden of Iraq will be with us for decades regardless of which party wins. It will cost us trillions of dollars in the long run, and only take us further and further from energy independence and world peace. Hopefully Cheney & Bush will rot in a very, very warm place for what they have done to us.

Democrats will still win the White House.
Bush has tainted many views of Republicans. For a party that hangs their hat on 'less government', creating a the bureaucracy of 'Homeland Security' is like slapping your daddy in the face. That does not include the billions we are spending every day (money we have to borrow) and have spent on this war, our economy is in terrible shape with a debt that can not be paid. Since Americans do not make much of anything anymore, I am not sure how this debt can be paid. Not a trait of a 'conservative'.

Iraq is the center of attention for Ron Paul, our soldiers know this and if you follow his website, you'll see soldiers contributing too his campaign online, that tells me they trust Ron Paul.....since he leads all gop's in military contrabution alone makes him worthy of the nomination.
