Insert the CD and you should be prompted with a installation wizard . If that doesn't happen you know how to reach me and I will talk you through it . OK I think I see in addition to cleaning the CD also clean the drive . Then insert the Cd and manually start it by clicking start > run > browse > select the drive you place the CD in > and then the set up file . That should get you going if not give me a yell .

You can actually access the installer directly:

Go to the "my computer" icon and double-click to show the drives, select the drive the cd is in, right-click on the mouse and select the "explore" option. This will show the contents of the cd.

Look for the installer; its icon will look like a little computer and will say "install". Double-click on this to start installation.

This is a way to bypass the computer doing an automatic search for the installer when the cd is first inserted, which seems to be the root problem your computer is having; good luck!

sounds like the disc is damaged or dirty. Try cleaning first.

you could take it to a game console shop who will probably offer a disc repair service.

the principle of repairing discs is to remove the scratches. the readable data is not on the surface and so if you remove the scratches then the laser can read what is underneath.

car polish and a cloth can work to get rid of scratches as it is a mild abrasive and so can wear scratches down.
