I have a really bad cold and cough, I can't sleep because every time I lie down, I feel like I cannot breathe, I sleep for about an hour and wake up feeling like I'm choking on my own throat, is there any way I can get some sleep for longer than this, medicines only work when I'm awake, I'm worn out and on the verge of tears, all ideas welcome.

It's quite hard for me not to get up when I wake up, one because I don't want my poor boyfriend to go through it, and two because I'm nearly sick every time I wake up because of my nose :(

I know the feeling cheryl, i had a cold like this all last week. The only sollution i came up with was taking all my meds about half hour before going to bed then making a drink of hot water, lemon juice, honey and a spoonful of sugar, it really cleared my throat and sinnus which eases the feeling of not being able to breathe. Make sure you go to bed with lot of tissues and things so that if you feel a bit bunged up you can deal with it without getting out of bed.
Hope you feel better!

I know how you feel, I'm in the same situation now. Anything hot or warm will do, try drinking hot tea with honey, slowly sipping on it-don't chug it down. That will relax your throat, and you'll be able to breathe better. Try putting extra pillows so you aren't laying down flat. turn on your back, so you aren't putting more pressure on your lungs and throat. Sleep medicines, like Theraflu (!!that one is great!), NyQuill-they will help you relax and fall asleep, even thought its not the sleep aid that you need. I really do recommend Theraflu-they have different kinds (cherry, lemon etc) and work for different things-head and chest congestion, headache etc, find the one that might suite your siuation better. There is about 7 different kinds.
Good luck, feel better!!

try steaming yourself over a bowl of hot water and a towel over your head for about 20 Min's, or have a hot steamy bath, rub your self with Vick's and take a decongestant like sudafed, lie on an extra pillow so you are slightly raised up,

this should help a wee bit

Try and increase the number of pillows you have to prop yourself up, decongestants are good, i always find red bull give me a good pick me up when i have a nasty cold. Take paracetamol alongside a non-steroidal such as ibuprofen, it works a treat!
