One presumes that you are refering to the Australian Aboriginals. I would strongly advise you to procure a copy of:
"The Fatal Shore" by Robert Hughes
or
"A Short History of Australia" by Manning Clarke


Or better still try:

either way if you type in 'Australian Aborigines: History' your search engine will give you several references.

In Australia it was a little fun. The colonists didn't expand out too far, so much of the land remained open for the Aborigines.

Generally with contempt. The British were looking for wealth and power to maintain their empire. And the local populations were seen as a resource to be exploited to that end.
