Possibly because mathematical objects have logical existence only, so all their properties are by convention and definition. Odd and Pair mean that a number can be divided by two either not. Two in turn is a categorial concept, so "even" is any concept number that can be divided by the concept two, whatever this could possibly mean. To this extent it could be an illusion.
